My voice teacher has this really fat cat, and she doesn't even give her a lot of food. It's so funny because when you see her run you just see this fluffy fatness flopping everywhere.

I miss my Juliet. She was so cute and funny. I made an OC, who's not really a cat (he's a species I made up), but he's a bit overweight, and I based that off of Juliet.

My fatboy Jazz-Purr is about 18 pounds. the vet said he needs to lose some weight though. But I loves my fat cat. But if it's ACTUALLY unhealthy for him, I guess I can try to get him to loose some weight. But the vet said other than his weight, he's perfectly healthy.

A good way to get him to lose weight is to get him active. Got to a pet store or dollar store and ask if they have a treat ball. It is a ball with holes in it that when the cat rolls it, treats fall out. Instead of putting treats in it, put the cat's food in it so he has to work for his food. Do not feed him treats anymore, people love to give their pets too many treats and that is how a lot of them get fat.

I still have my fat cat in the picture, but she is only overweight. Your cat is unfortunately obese and obesity can really harm a cat.

Try the treat ball and just play with him more often! Get him active!

^_^ I do. He gets played with all the time. Our vet said he'll always be chubby, but that he's got to get active. My other cat helps with that. She rips around the house and plays with him whenever she can get him to.

So, you like unhealthy animals?

Extra pounds carry many of the same risks for animals as it does for people. Overweight cats are more prone to heart disease and arthritis.

And the only reason a cat would ever get like this is because of owners who won't put their foot down and help them.

Ever heard of genetics? Your stamp says something about Uniqueness, so I hope you would have. My one cat doesn't gorge himself, excercises, and still weighs 30 pounds. He's also very healthy and happy. I'd rather him be like this than when he came in to my life as a starved dehydrated thing.

BrunetteMenolly In reply to dracotheferret [2011-05-10 03:23:46 +0000 UTC]

You mean my signature says something about uniqueness?

I'll repeat.

"Extra pounds carry many of the same risks for animals as it does for people. Overweight cats are more prone to heart disease and arthritis."

Just because your cat is active does not mean he is not getting a lot of wear and tear on his joints and strain on his artieries that wouldn't be happening if he were a healthy weight.

Yes, it's most definitely preferable to being undernourished, but not as good as (or, God forbid, better than) being healthy. Good, bad, and ugly, as it were.

dracotheferret In reply to BrunetteMenolly [2011-05-10 03:58:45 +0000 UTC]

There is a difference between OBESE and NATURALLY STOCKY. His father was stocky, his brother is stocky and so he himself is stocky. It's called genetics.

Also, we have taken him to the vet numerous times and his joints are just fine, as is his heart rate and everything else. Just because a cat is big doesn't mean they're unhealthy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BrunetteMenolly In reply to dracotheferret [2011-05-10 18:05:23 +0000 UTC]

So you're telling me that he is three times the weight he should be, (that is, average cat weight)and your vet has not talked to you about getting it down? (Unless he's a Main Coon, or something comparable, in which case he's only twice what he's supposed to weigh- which isn't much better.)

A five-hundred pound man is not "stocky." Same with the cat.

"Just because a cat is big doesn't mean they're unhealthy."

Just nowhere near as healthy as they should be. My mom is about seventy pounds overweight. (she struggles with it every day) Because she has a good diet, however, and exercises, she has good blood pressure. But she KNOWS that her goal is still to lose weight- because she will be the more healthy for it. If you're not willing to put in the work, fine, but refusing to acknowledge there is a problem is a whole other kettle of fish.

Look, starting a hissy fit over something that the author TOLD you to research MONTHS after the fact is really annoying. I do not like arguing with someone who doesn't know what they are talking about and pretends to be some expert.

Bottom line it is not mine OR my family's fault that my cat is naturally a lot larger than average, and if the vet says that he is fine, then why the hell is it your place to criticize me? Some people/animals/etc are just meant to be oversized. Also, what matters the most is that he is comfortable, happy, and loved, not that he is a very large cat. In fact if he were 10 pounds he'd probably be too thin for how huge his body frame is. This cat is the size of a medium-sized dog, if not larger.

Take your picky shit elsewhere. Good day.

Oh, I'm sorry if I'm not online all the time, and that I'm in the middle of switching accounts. dA is not the "top priority" in my life.

If you looked at any of my page you'd know I intend to become a vet, and that I take animal health seriously. I've worked for vets, and nowhere in any discussions about pet weight did they ever once mention that any cat over twenty pounds should stay that way.

If the author was that adamant about her position then she would link me something to back up her contrary-to-mainstream-science views. Maybe I'll ask her to do so. Don't snipe at me- we both have the same interests- providing for and promoting happy animals- right?

Your interests seem more like harassing people with happy animals if the animals do not meet your specifications.

Cats that are saved from the streets of a harsh city tend to not know when to stop eating.

Like humans, it takes us around 15 minutes to feel "full" - but within that 15 minutes you can pack away a hell of a lot of food.

My cat is completely healthy. The cat in this stamp is still with me today. I brought her to the vet just a couple weeks ago and she is perfectly healthy minus a little bit of gingivitis and a lump she has always had on her hip from being abused on the streets.

She is overweight, but not obese. Obesity is bad. Not being a little overweight.

Did you know that being overweight is actually healthier than being skinny? Fat helps you store harmful toxins in your body. People think that is "bad," but it is better than storing those toxins in your heart, brain, liver, etc.

I put my foot down and helped a stray. She has been in my life for 10 years and will be with me for many years to come.

I hope you learned something today and I hope you do more research. Thanks for the comment.
