In memory of Ludwig Bemelmans who passed away last week 52 years ago and in honor of the 75th anniversary of his most famous work, I did this drawing of Madeline. I've always loved Madeline ever since I was a kid (loved the books and the cartoon). Recently I was thinking that Hayao Miyazaki probably would have liked to do his own version of Madeline, so I drew her in his style (heavily inspired by Mei from Totoro and Ponyo in human form). As for the background, I wanted to do it in the simple looking watercolor work of the original book illustrations. It was a bit of trouble to do, but I think it paid off in the end!Madeline is owned by Ludwig Bemelmans

That's a very lovely tribute to the author of the original stories, and seeing her in Hayao Miyazaki's form makes her just that bit more adorable (is that even possible?)

Thank you so much! These were some of my favorite books and one of my favorite shows as a kid. I thought it would be cute to see her in Miyazaki's style, and that's probably possible
