Description IT'S OVER!

Star-popping tutorial, I've given it a buttload of proofreads, but feel free to point out grammaticals or nonsensicals you find.

The lovely Blackheartqueen reminded me of an extremely useful tip:

You can use fake nails as an EXTREMELY strong popping-device, with the ease of using your own real nails, but without the discomfort of breaking/killing them

This is an excellent in-depth folding tutorial by the wonderful CandidCandy, [link] (who makes really gorgeous star papers in addition to having an awesome username. XD) It should answer and questions about the in-between steps of the folding that I glazed over. And while you're there, notice how perfect the points of her pentagons are!

Now, look at the cute icon!

And, That's it!

Happy Folding everyone!

Oh, and a happy happy day it is indeed when I no longer have to watch Rick Sanchez' smug face in his smug suits smiling his smug smiles while Just-Got-Home-From-Work-So-It's-CNN-Don't-Piss-Me-Off-Boy-Mama condemns me to Glenn Beck's featureless face, news of 12 year olds not understanding what they're seeing, and Pedobear being a symbol for pedophiles for an hour while I cook dinner. Oh, A happy day indeed. Sayonara, Sanchez, you bumhug. My turn to look smug.

I can't afford to buy the precut strips, but I'm kinda glad I can't. There is a MASSIVE amount of gorgeous paper available through DA, check out [link] Huuuuuuuuuuge collection there, and lots of related groups too.

Usually I'll print my paper and photocopy it a bunch at school, but I design my own paper and love to take requests (wink wink) as well as finding them through DA. [link] that thread has a lot of my personal favorites. Don't be frightened by the 4chan link, its the good non-scary part of 4chan lol

Also if you want to print really HQ stars and have a few extra dollars to drop on niiiice paper, get 27 lb paper instead of 22 lb. the lb being the paper density... but now i'm rambling about crazy ocd specifics. I'll show myself out.

lol hope your folding is fabulous ;D

This is great help! Thank you!

I have been making paper stars for a couple months now and some would turn out great while others would be a little... weird looking. I will have to try some of these tips out next time I am making them.

Ahahaha, Oh I remember trying to deduce the differences between the wonkers and the beautiful stars. I hope I might be able to save a couple from eternal wonkiness :3 Thanks :]

You are in no way whatsoever stupid, I PROMISE. YOU ARE AWESOME. Stars are just real hard to start on doing, especially if you're learning off the internet. I used to keep two different jars, one for stars that got bent and ruined and one for the 'perfect' stars. I swear the ruined-star jar was always full lol. Eventually you notice you're not messing up as much, and then its just muscle-memory. KEEP TRYING! They're totally worth it :]

I can't do it! I always end up with it still flat, but bent on the edges!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Subtleknees In reply to SeerWalker [2012-02-10 19:25:24 +0000 UTC]

make sure you're folding it REALLY tightly and not getting it too moist from hand-sweat. My preferred method of popping the really tricky ones is using the flat side of an exacto knife or any thin sharp instrument. Keep it horizontal, and press down slowly and you should get a popped star :]

Half the fun is fighting through the frustration and seeing yourself improve GOOD LUCK, DON'T GIVE UP!

You're welcome! I bought some lucky star paper to make some so I can decorate my room with them xD. If I screw up I'll just look at your tutorial again.

haha, there's always lots of messing up (at least for me) but all the special wonky stars are still cute in their own way! Good luck, I hope the decoration went well

this is a good tutorial with methods i never thought of, wonderful job! i also find that using the blunt end of an exacto-knife does a good job popping the edges and is easy to control c:

Ahh, I love the long ass fake nails approach

I used to keep one on my index for stars, though fairly short, until a stranger on the subway asked if I could get him a deal on coke. lol

Excellent point though, I will make a note of it in an edit soon

Subtleknees In reply to Cumino [2010-10-04 19:53:20 +0000 UTC]

Do eeet.

Do eeeeeet.

I have stars I made special for your art show, all folded in a little bag and happy, but I had misplaced them a few days prior and found them like a week ago. So, craftwar.

Dooo eeeeeeeet.

Let the littered corpses of glue and fabric snips lie in their barbed-thread caskets, to remind us of the years of anguish... the years of the craft wars.

Oh how I long for my bloodied fingertips in all their dexterous glory We shall craft, once again my brother. We shall craft.

Cumino In reply to Subtleknees [2010-10-08 21:17:52 +0000 UTC]

i thoroughly appreciated all of that.
we should plan a good day for it... and document it, and send it in to the history channel.

also- i'm kind of rocking the whole deadbeat artist shtick right now with my not having a job and whatnot, so my days are relatively free.

Subtleknees In reply to Cumino [2010-10-19 23:43:54 +0000 UTC]

Cumino In reply to Subtleknees [2010-10-25 20:24:05 +0000 UTC]

sorta. i need to do some serious work in the next little while to get my application in to this animation studio i want to work at... but yeah, i'm free most of the time during the day.
