Description Ever seen a flower fly? Well today’s entry is all centered on the flying flora that is the Spindrift.

Spindrifts are flying plant-like creatures, first appearing in Super Mario 64.

Native to the cold regions, Spindrifts have developed a way to adapt to the freezing environment through plant-like bodies which functions like coats that create their own body heat to ensure the Spindrift species survive the shivering tundras. Most Spindrifts contain blooming pink flowers upon their heads which they use like helicopter blades to fly. These flower propellers come in many different forms and colors, but the round pink petals are the most common one. Spindrifts usually spend their early young years burrowed into the snow, collecting the drops of snow that land on them and then turning it into the food they need to eventually sprout.

After a few weeks, the adult will spring from the snow and then let their new grown petals dry before they can fully use them. Spindrifts, like some plants, take in the sunlight to photosynthesis and make their own food. So when feeding time comes, Spindrift fly up to the sky to absorb the sun’s rays from up close, but not too close. It’s easy to tell which is a male and female by looking at the color of their heads. Male ones are usually more white while the females feature a peach color and eyelashes.

They way they reproduce is kinda weird, the males use the flowers on their head to release pheromones that attract the female and draws them towards the male. When the two members finally find each other , they will hover around in what can be described as a “Petal Dance” where they will swirl around the sky in pairs before angling their flowers near eachother to fertilize the seeds. Once the dance is done, the female will find a nice patch of snow to implant the seeds by plopping its flower head upside down, melting the snow underneath it so the seeds have the water they need to birth the next generation.
