My first real attempt at using Pastels and I loved it.
It also was derived from reading The Origin of Myth"

Triptych Final for Figure Drawing.

Spring 2007.

Better picture to come later, this one's a bit funky

*Large view is a must, kids. I am so proud of this.

I was going to comment on how this reminds me of gulliver's travels, but it really doesn't. I think the sybolism, is so strong here. I'd like to hear what you're own meaning you put into it.
I see this as sybmolising bondage, not so much in a sexual sense, on a much broader plain, everything that traps a person, holds them back, from continued hasseling from advertizing, to socioeconomic shortcomings, to physical incapabilitys, to gender roles & ideals of beauty.

Sorry about the delayed respose!! busy busy beee.

Anyway, You touched on many underlying themes. It is bascically my portrait of Mother Earth (i.e. me, you, whoever) who feels as if she has become too big (...too inhibited) by the world she has created and loves. The vines she sprouted from seeds have "embraced" her, making her attempt to leave even harder than it was in the first place. And her veins (which are hard to see in my crap photo) mimic the rivers that are below (it's in her blood). As far as ideals of beauty go...i don't ever try to speak directly to those issues (I personally don't encounter those issues) but I try to maintain a level of sexuality, and honest beauty, in all of my figure work...if that makes sense

Kind of a...you are where you come from...kinda thing. Or rather, you make your own bed.

Now, i can't tell if that was my original intent (I'm pretty sure ) or if i just made that up right now!

Thanks for the great comment
