Description
During one of his early campaigns to reacquaint with his people, Katara of the Water Tribe convinced Fire Lord Zuko to attend a workshop for the Ember Island Players latest “faceless-style” play (“To Melt A Fire”) featuring the two’s exploits.

While the script was still in it‘s early stages, many of the costumes and props were in production or completed, including the Comedy and Tragedy masks that would represent the hero and heroine. It’s said that the two heroes even helped craft their own actor’s props.

There’s a rumor that when the Fire Lord discovered his was the Tragedy mask, it was he who defaced Katara’s Comedy mask with the quip “Come on, have a sense of humor.”

There’s also a rumor that the interaction of the two within the play is heavily influenced by how they interacted in front of the actors and craftsmen that day.

After the pair saw the premier of the play, they were reportedly speechless, as were the Avatar and Lady Mai of the Fire Nation.

The play remains in popular production today as a time-honored adventure of friendship and passionate, forbidden romance. In honor of the day Fire Lord Zuko and Katara of the Water Tribe visited the players, the Katara mask has always kept the twirly black mustache that the Fire Lord purportedly painted on it.
