Finally! The colored version!This was actually one of the easiest colorings I've every done (most likely because of the large swatches of single color). It was incredibly fun, nonetheless.
I searched all over the Web for a good description of Marak and Kate, since I don't yet own a copy of the book (Christmas Present!!! *hope hope*). Mrs. Dunkle's website had the best description (of course), but there were a few details that were lacking for this portrait, so I just made them up as I went along (hope no one is too terribly offended).
The intent was for this scene/picture to be sometime around their wedding day, though there isn't really much within the actual drawing to indicate that; that bit of the story was just what I was thinking about as I drew in Kate.

I had the same problem as you, looking for fan art, so I figured I'd just try and make my own. I'm as shocked as anybody that it turned out the way it did O_o

I love those books to death! I'm in the middle of re-reading them... I'm on the second book, and I searched up The Hollow Kingdom and got a lot of Kingdom Hearts stuff... and then I found this! So so kewl.
It's definitely not a well-known series, but I'm glad to see so many other people love it!

Yeah, you'd think the series would be more well-known that it is, but I guess a lot of that might have to do with the whole fairy/goblin genre being rather small. It really is some pretty awesome stuff, though. ^___^

The fairies will get their day, eventually, I think. I've seen a growing number of books about them and most of them are pretty good, but I figure as soon as it hits mainstream it's all downhill from there. At least, that seems to be the pattern of things.

man, everytime I look up anything on the Hollow Kingdom Trilogy I'm just hoping someone will make Marak amazingly hot in his own way, despite that it's a known fact he's ugly, but still...someday it'll happen tho, right? *cos she has this book-crush on Marak and she really hates picturing him when the book keeps describing something hideous when we know he's not*

lol, I don't think anyone can help it; he's just got a good personality, and I don't know, maybe I just never imagine Marak looking ghastly until I actually see a picture, and even then it's not so bad...that sounds mean and shallow but it's part of human existance that we base our attraction mostly on looks and I'm surprised that so many people who've read the series have taken to Marak so well, and have been able to get past his "deformities" and like him anyway^^

oh yeah, I have one of the books-the first & best!- with me. Marak's left iris is pure black. Not sure exactly if it says anydifferent in the other 2 books --she should so make more!. havent reread them in a while

By These Ten Bones is about a girl in the medieval-ish times (I don't remember the exact dates) who encounters a wood-carver boy who unfortunately happens to be a werewolf *sad-day*. I liked the story. I thought it was an interesting take on the usually werewolf plot-line.

Perhaps not quite as interesting as Marak (^__^). It's been a while since I read it, but I liked the two main characters. Poor Paul was a little angsty, but that's understandable; it's rough being a werewolf. And Maddie, the girl, was a pretty fun, curious kid from what I remember. There should be a better synopsis on Clare Dunkle's website clarebdunkle.com or at least some sample chapters, if you want to look into that.
