Back in the last millennium when I was still at university a friend challenged me to draw something or someone from the then new Final Fantasy 8. I did not know the game at the time but after doing a bit of research I discovered the GUNBLADE and just thought well that would be fun to draw. But I didn't want to just draw Squall holding his own gunblade so I decided to draw the character Rinoa Heartilly. It just seemed like a touching and intriguing image of her holding the hero's weapon. Fans of FF have criticized that she doesn't look like Rinoa or that she looks too old. Again I did not really know the character I just felt this made a good drawing. My friend never told me who won.My friend drew a Chocobo. A very good Chocobo from what I remember.

I have played the game.......and they're right It doesn't look like her............ However, this could mean a new chapter can be given life...: Squall has gone on a top secret mission, leaving his loved ones and his gunblade behind.......Maybe this Fantasy isn't quite Final yet......

It's really great, personally I think you made Rinoa look "hot", whereas in the game I felt like she was more "pretty". But from an artistic standpoint I love the shading and the emotion. Really makes you feel as though Squall is dead. I dig it.

thank you. when i was challenged to draw something from the game i didn't know it very well. i just found some pics for reference. i didn't know the character well so that's why i made her more "hot".

I really like the character design. People are right that it looks nothing like Rinoa. But as an original character, it is flawless. FANTASTIC JOB!

Thank you very much. I just felt Rinoa holding the gunblade would be a very engaging image. My best advice is to keep drawing and use reference materials when you want to attempt realism
