This is my absolute favourite favourite favourite of all your shots! And I do actually like a lot of your stuff, as you've probably noticed by my faving spree, so to say. But I absolutely adore this pic!

I love how the water looks like a satin ribbon, so smoooth...I went to the opera one night I saw um...um, oh yeah "Othello"....I have to say I hated every minute of it...It sounded like my Grandfather singing in the shower...yeah, Im a philistine, i know. I much prefer female operatic voices, but I do like some of the Alto' mens registers...particularly the guy who sings in Cirque du Soleil, La Nouba ranty, rant....sorry

Long live the Queen! : ) (with the Queen being the OH of course! ). Very nice mood, love the composition: even though the OH is not too large in the photo, it takes over, with the moon, the entire scene!

She's gorgeous!

You've captured her beautifully.

Did you see her when she was lit up in pink? My sister climbed the bridge the following night for her 21st birthday and said it wasn't pink when she climbed but other buildings were. Have you climbed the bridge?

Thanx Mel... no .. like U I don't venture into the city as often as I should... you comming in for the Dev meet this Sat? Meet up with me!
Central to Glebe market!
Haven't climbed the bridge either.. fear of rivets!

I didn't even know about it. I would if I could. Sorry. Maybe for the next one. Usually I have to plan things like this in advance lol. The joys of being disabled! Especially when public transport is against you.

I would love to climb the bridge. I've been under it and on it, so I suppose the only way to go over it is fly lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sun-Seeker In reply to wheely-mel [2006-10-27 04:30:57 +0000 UTC]

U could fly under it! add these guys to your watch list.. and if you ever want I could meet you at sutho station and drive you to the meet.... next time.. as long as I'm in town. How do you get off a train with that gap?? Sure you don't want me to send you that murerball DVD.. its getting dusty!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wheely-mel In reply to Sun-Seeker [2006-11-09 23:02:20 +0000 UTC]

I have to tell the station master where I'm going and what train I'll be on in which compartment, he then radio's through the station I'll be arriving at with those details and they help me on and off with a special ramp. Unfortunately not every station is wheelchair friendly, and only one or two is accessible down here in Wollongong, and it's a hike to get to lol. That's why I have to plan in advanced.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wheely-mel In reply to Sun-Seeker [2006-11-13 22:40:47 +0000 UTC]

No I haven't travelled that far before. Usually I have to have someone with me, and I hate that I have to lug someone with me who doesn't always want to be there lol.

But I rarely travel on trains these days. I do drive but I can't get my big electric chair in the car, and it's the chair that makes me independent.

Oh well. You take the bad with the bad most of the time LOL.

Also, doesn't work in full view for some reason....weird.

Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House from the harbour
Photograph courtesy of Andrew Watt
Sydney Opera House must be one of the most recognisable images of the modern world - up there with the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building - and one of the most photographed.

Not only is it recognisable, it has come to represent 'Australia'.

Although only having been open since 1973, it is as representative of Australia as the pyramids are of Egypt and the Coliseum of Rome.

The Opera House is situated on Bennelong Point, which reaches out into the harbour. The skyline of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the blue water of the harbour and the Sydney Opera House, viewed from a ferry or from the air, is dramatic and unforgettable.

Ironic, perhaps, that this Australian icon - the Opera House with a roof evocative of a ship at full sail - was designed by renowned Danish architect - Jorn Utzon.

In the late 1950s the New South Wales (NSW) Government established an appeal fund to finance the construction of the Sydney Opera House, and conducted a competition for its design.

Utzon's design was chosen. The irony was that his design was, arguably, beyond the capabilities of engineering of the time. Utzon spent a couple of years reworking the design and it was 1961 before he had solved the problem of how to build the distinguishing feature - the 'sails' of the roof.

The venture experienced cost blow-outs and there were occasions when the NSW Government was tempted to call a halt. In 1966 the situation - with arguments about cost and the interior design, and the Government withholding progress payments - reached crisis point and Jorn Utzon resigned from the project. The building was eventually completed by others in 1973. After more than 30 years, the Sydney Opera House has its first interior designed by Utzon. The Utzon Room, a transformed reception hall that brings to life Jorn Utzon's original vision for his masterpiece, was officially opened on September 16 2004.
