I realized I never really put any art of Emery on dA.. so I decided to remake his ref sheet cause the other one is just.. eh. It's not even a year old yet but my art improved a lot already fdjkhdfkg. Anyway here's my big boy

Personality:

Emery may look like a savage crocodile, but he isn’t one to go out of his way to hurt someone. Generally the older croc is calm, and would rather talk things out than fight about them. The croc sports a quick wit about him, as he has been around for a while; he has some experience.
Again, not one to be malicious for the fun of it. If, however, someone were to make him angry or be in his way, they would have plenty of verbal warning before he decides to take any action.
Now, Emery is a pirate, so there are bound to be others who are in the way. If they are to be so unfortunate, they’ll be tasting the old croc’s bite and claws. His false leg is equipped with four very sharp blades, and they’ll rip right through any who stand in it’s path.
As a captain, Emery is fair to his all-reptile crew. Plenty of ‘em are given chances to prove themselves, and even those who are insubordinate are sternly talked to at best. (Really depends on the type of insubordination. If he or the crew were put into danger because of insubordination, that’d be a different story).
Perhaps odd to hear, but Emery can be sympathetic or even kind to those who don’t pose a threat to him. The old croc isn’t entirely selfish with his winnings/treasure, and he may see it fit to donate to a good cause or someone in need. Legends may say he is fierce, and while the croc is in battle on the seas, there’s another side to him others may fail to see. Not that the older reptile boasts about the kinder side of him to the world, he still has an image to uphold. He is a rather proud crocodile, proud of his crew and accomplishments as a pirate.

Background:

As a young croc, Emery had always loved the sea. Loved swimming and exploring the depths, and seeing what sort of discoveries he could make. Always wondered what kind of world was out there.. He never traveled with his parents, and they all stayed in a small port town making meager earnings.
Once Emery was of age, the desire to sail on the sea overtook him, and he wished to join sailors that would often visit the port.. He never did have much luck, as his odd coloration put people off. Eventually Emery was accepted into a pirate crew. He left his family without bidding them goodbye, as his folks always lived an honest life, and he didn’t want them knowing what he was getting into. The crew was just in need of anyone they could find, as they were starting an odd voyage. The captain had very strong superstitious beliefs, and he was after a myth of the sea- The Kraken. The Captain wished to find this beast to control it, make it listen to him, become it’s master. The search for the beast stretched on for years, as finding the beast’s true location on old maps and old scrolls proved to be a challenge in itself. Throughout those years Emery grew in knowledge of the seas, and in finding maps managed to encounter other creatures; mermaids, sea monsters, kelpies, etc.
The captain and his crew did finally manage to find The Kraken, but the battle was short-lived; nothing could’ve prepared them for such a monstrous encounter. Emery managed to make it out alive from the wreckage of the ship, as did a few other members of the crew. They banded together and made their way back to land eventually (tricked a small boat of sailors into acquiring their ship).
Of the old crew, another was made Captain, but he was entirely unfair and savage. Greed soon became his downfall. The crew went through a few captains before Emery was finally old enough and smart enough to put himself in charge. His crew was small, and he had no name for himself, but that all soon changed.
Emery too found himself wanting to search for The Kraken, as the first captain had. Most of the crew from that first encounter years ago were gone, and other, younger members soon grew to like the idea of finding such a beast and trying to control it-- or die in the attempt.
Emery felt he had more knowledge and would be more prepared for this second encounter, even though he was aware that he was putting the entire crew in danger with such a wild fantasy. Years of plunder and pirating afforded them a nice, massive ship, a two-masted schooner, which they promptly armed with cannons.
Thinking they were prepared, Emery led his crew into the beasts’ lair once more. This time the battle lasted for a while longer, but the ship was still completely destroyed, and the battle took more than half the crew. Emery lost his leg in this fight, and luckily, once again, sailors passing through came by and saw the wreckage. The crew allowed them to take them to shore, and Emery remained on land for a while, as he had to get used to his new, false leg.
That second battle left Emery with a number of scars, and the croc felt the heavy loss of his crew and ship, along with their plunder. However, this time was a bit different, as he had buried some of their treasure on a remote island in case something like this were to happen again.
With his small crew, Emery had to start again from the ground up, but it wouldn’t take long before he earned the name Ghost of the Seven Seas. The crocodile was ruthless in battles, as he took over many merchant ships and pirated their goods and gold. The albino had finally created a name for himself on the seas, whether he liked the name or not. Business was business, and he had to do what he could for the men that still remained dedicated to him. There was no desire for an enormous crew this time, though there was still that yearning to chase after legends of the sea. Perhaps tamer legends could be found. Perhaps smaller bounties of treasure awaited him. Even if The Kraken was still in the back of his mind, Emery couldn’t bring himself to risking his crew again. Mayhaps a different approach was needed for this beast, but Emery had time to think it over.
The crocodile had indeed gotten his wish to see the world and marvelous wonders and dangers that awaited him. And though he’s now old, he still feels there are things he has yet to witness. The sea was a large place, and who knew what other creatures awaited him in the depths?
