I'm a Ravenclaw ^^ I did a test, lol. I was almost a Slytherin. I'm afraid I scored the lowest on Hufflepuff...poor Hufflepuff.

It's not so much being an arsehole that makes one a Slytherin. It's more a matter of being the absolute best at what he does and making sure everyone knows it.
Which makes him something of an arsehole, but that's a secondary effect.
As for Gryff vs Puff: Gryffindors are officers, while Hufflepuffs are privates and non-coms. In relationship to Holmes, Watson is definitely a private.

Oh yes! I just think that element of his personailty pushes him more over to Slytherin than Ravenclaw, but his cunningness is what is most Slytherin-ish about him. I mean, he DOES drug his mate and then pretend to be dead for THREE YEARS
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, but remember, John Watson was an Army Doctor, which makes him officer class. And he's not even that subservient to Holmes, he just knows when to do as he says, but he's not afraid to tell him he's being a douche. There's a difference in being able to follow orders, and being reliant on being given orders.
I just think he's very hard working (checking through all those books in blind banker) loyal (Reichenbach fall anyone?) and most of all an incredibly reliable and honest man. I don't think you can rely too much on gryffindors, I mean, they are brave but they are also fool hardy, they don't think things through and can be quite judgemental at times. They wear there hearts on their sleeves and are too emotional to think straight. Nothing against them though, each house has their negative attributes as we well know lol

I knew Watson was an officer in the Army, which is why I specified his relationship with Holmes -- though I think he's probably more of a master sergeant than a private.
Gryffindors aren't really soldiers at all; they're heroes. They'll watch each other's backs in a fight, but they don't keep military discipline and they don't obey orders. They're like the ancient Celts, racing into battle naked, swinging their broadswords, while the Hufflepuffs are the Roman legions, marching together with shields interlocked. Celts are all romantic and people love them, but Hufflepuff conquers the world.

Yeah, sorry, I get what you mean, I just, I think that they're sort, more like equals, I mean, Sherlock is Smarter than him, but he's smarter than everyone. He still needs John. They're relationship, in my mind at least, is what inspired the Doctor/Donna relationship, and so I see it in those terms. But you know, everyone's entitled to their own opinion
Hmmm, yeah. I guess I see what you mean there
And I love the historical analogy! Very apt! ^^

Woops.
Haha, my mom asked me what I was doing upstairs a little while ago.
Me: ''Oh, y'know, I'm having conversations with this awesome girl on the internet through dA comments. We're talking about languages, dreams, education in Britain, reading, exchanges, fandoms, and we had a discussion about the rating of a show we both liked. And stuff.''
Mom: ''...on the internet?''
My mom is still in that ''internet is only good for chatting and all 14-years old chat'' phase which I can't get her out of, so yeah you've just blown her mind!

I'll try, unfortunately she things the only things on the internet are 1.14-year old chatrooms 2.Porn 3.Cultists. Whenever I tell her I'm part of an online community, she goes
LOL XD That's one of the good sides of the internet. You can have people who's ages are ranging from 10 to 50 and somehow they still talk exactly the same.

I know! You can never tell the difference, it's because we are all intelligent intellectuals here in nerdfighteria! In some ways I guess you COULD decribe nerdfighteria as a cult, but it is more of a community, my parents don't understand either, and my Dad just thinks that internet friends are like facebook friends who you add but never talk too, which is INSANE as I talk to my internet friends far more often than my facebook friends, some of whom I don't even like as people, they just go to my school!

Well, I don't have facebook and I'm glad XD My dad thinks everyone on the internet is a reckless serial killer specialised in fourteen year olds anyway. Maybe I should show him Sci-show, because we are both science-nerds :3

sunlitlake In reply to WhenThingsGoBoom [2012-06-25 12:45:52 +0000 UTC]
That is true to some extent. I mean, before the internet, did we have fandom? Did we obsess over everything from the meaning behind "I will burn the heart out of you" to Whether the Doctor was a good man or not and passing by at some point to wonder why "if sherlock is such a pragmatist/ then why can't he buy a shirt that fits?"
