Few women were molded by the internet like Teresa Paraiso, for better or worse. This second-generation daughter of Filipino immigrants is the most American of her cousins, and hardly ever seen without a screen nearby. While her older sister was quickly pressed into domestic service to help around the house and serve as a de facto third parent, the middle of four kids found refuge in academics and earned grades good enough for her parents to let her spend her time in books and on computers. Her overprotective parents forbid most forms of socializing with boys, so Teresa filled the void with chat rooms and fanfiction and forums and discord servers and online games until the internet became a second culture for her.

Unfortunately, being the chubby girl who spoke in memes was disastrous for her social life in school, and Teresa enduring a lot of teasing, despite her small tight-knit circle of similarly minded girls. The only thing that complicated her social dynamic was developing sudden, extreme, and unwanted curves in junior year of high school. Bras no longer fit, everything was too tight, too sweaty, and worst of all, too noticeable. Suddenly everyone had an opinion on her clothes and her body, often unflattering, and she was glad to get away from them by staying on campus at the big public university nearby.

College has been a different experience altogether for her. She still dresses, acts like a recluse,but that's no longer a problem. She's no longer fat, she's curvy thicc, and she's no longer a creepy girl, she's a hot nerd.

That last one may not be true, but a girl can dream. She's made good friends in her classes, and her roommate a feisty English major from out of state who works as a barista and dreams of being a journalist. Teresa dreams of being a streamer, or being brave enough to monetize her new curves. For now though, she's content being an abrasive personality on every forum she visits, all too happy to spew invective at anyone with the wrong opinion. She shares the occasional game with her roommate, hangs out with friends from her classes, and goes home as seldom as possible.

There is a legit fighter in one of her science classes, and the two have hit it off, even though the tall Black girl keeps trying to get Teresa to come to her gym and try out Martial Arts. Teresa's only reluctantly started lifting weights, encouraged by the fact that she can already outlift most of the thin girls who seem to never touch the weights,

Martial arts feels like a pipe dream though, and she has no intention of being a boxer like the kind she watched on TV with her dad and the rest of her family. She'd rather fantasize about the cute boys in her class and draw fanart of her favorite shows. Though she dreams of being desired, of being the fun, cool, flirty girl in someone's friend group, she's most comfortable seated in front of a desk and typing, laughing or yelling into a headset.
