A small doujinshi I'm creating that takes place after the events of Laboratory 5, placing this roughly in between chapters 13 and 14 in the manga. The Carters, the Elrics, and Winry are all staying in the hotel used in the Laboratory 5 arc.

Finally finished the second page! I find that this was a nice way to conclude my Spring Break. Now I'm on the home stretch, Summer is almost here! ;v;b
I learned a lot while drawing this, even more than the last page! I love drawing Winry, it's so weird to think that I used to not like her. Well that has changed drastically.
Hooray for friendships!I won't spoil too much for the next page or explain this one, I'd like to see if anyone guesses what will happen (or just analyzes this in general, but I won't get my hopes up for that of course)!
As for Cassie's design, I decided on giving her more of a tall eye shape in the manga/Brotherhood and a more square eye shape in 03 just because I think it suits her and helps her not look like Al as much. I'm also just gonna draw her shirt as solid black since it's so dark, it saves me so much time and I changed some of the patterns I used as well. I like these better. 8D
I swear, it is unfair how long it takes to make a page in comparison to how quickly it takes someone to read it. OTL

Honestly doujins are way harder than I thought they would be, but I feel like the end result is worth it because you get to see your OCs really come to life and interact with their friends/environment.

Cassie's taller eyes are very cute here! I think the black on her shirt works well — I'm pretty sure mangaka tend to jump straight to black with conveying most dark colors because more ink on the page is generally a good thing.
Guess for next page: Cassie will have inner contemplation (AL THOUGHTS~) and then fess up at least a little to her feelings.

I'm glad the composition makes sense, that was probably my biggest hurdle. Figuring out what events happen in which panels is harder than I thought it would be. owo;

Nothing gets passed Winry~!! XD She's such a tease too. Funny how she can be open about her crush, but... Around he she won't say she's in love. (Then again, she really didn't do any name dropping |D).
But, I digress... It's great to see another page of the doujin up~! I'm guessing the next page will be about Cassie's "Oscar Moment" (especially since that last panel looks so serious and she's about to give that Oscar-type monologue XD). But, gosh, I can't wait to see where the story goes from here~ ^u^
I have a question though... How did you do that gray gradient effect in some of the panel? Like, where it goes from a dark gray to a lighter gray and it looks sort of "grainy"? Do you use a general gradient and set a certain texture for it (because I know SAI has its special textures). So, just curious. You've done really well to mimic the manga style so far!

Honestly I just looked up patterns on google images (free ones, of course) and copied them into SAI. It's really not as fancy as you'd think, pfft, but it gets the job done that it does.
