Description So here's a photo (slightly edited at the frame) of the pic I've been painting/drawing for my dad for christmas. It started out as a digital painting and was much darker than this version, but since my computer started acting out two weeks before christmas, I transferred it to some thick sheet of ink cardboard and started mixing several kinds of pens and ink for its execution.

It looked really apocalyptic and evil in the first version, with the blackbird being a bird of prey and the clouds being dark and loaded. I decided to change it toward this childish illustration style because the sheet of paper was really big, and a dark illustration in that size just has a very depressing effect when hung up.

I've had this motive in my head for a long while, in many different takes. The big tree with its deep roots used to be red and black and threatening in my dreams (yes, I have recurring dreams with some amount of symbolism), but its image changed over the years. The mice are children. I won't go too deep into explaining stuff, since this is just one expression of some sort of inner imagery I keep revisiting and changing.

Finally I want to state: I'm not too happy with the outcome, and I know where I went wrong. It just had me busy for too long, not only mentally, but also thanks to my goddamn computer problems, so that I'm really glad I could put an end to this project by handing it to my dad.

This really helped me to get back in touch with this kind of mixing technique, though, and I look forward to my next paintings in this style.

size: roughly 60x65cm
colours: black and blue ink, Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens, Copic Multiliner, watercolours, salt, a lot of water, white acrylic paint, Edding 1300 color pens

Thanks for taking a look and I hope you like it somehow! ^^''

I love the layers of blue, the sharpish style in the rocks, and the way the mice are both perched and alert.

Wow... I'd love to take a look inside your mind. Maybe just a peek. This is vivid, beautiful and full of character and imagination. It's interesting what turn it took from beginning to the finished touches.

Thank you so much for this beautiful comment and for adding my pictures to your favourites! I appreciate it. My mind's a messy but friendly place with the occasional dark crevice. Nothing too fancy, but not shabby either. I prefer sending pictures out instead of letting visitors in, though.

Absolutely. I think you said it best about exporting things from your mind but not importing, hehe.

I think someone would never be the same way again if they peeked inside mine >_>

Or the tentacles would come out and pull them inside. Bahaha.  I look forward to your future concepts as always :3
