Description

My Grand Pa bounced me on his knee,
his  big moustache would tickle me.
He'd want a kiss, give me a peck
and blow a raspberry on my neck.
I'd squeal so loud, laugh with delight,
my arms around him, hug him tight.

While playing games of hide and seek,
he'd start to count but would always peek
and then pretend he couldn't see,
where I had hid. Where could I be?

My Grand pa could do magic,
he could make a penny disappear,
until he uttered  "Sim-sala-bim!"
and there it was behind my ear.

Sometimes he'd take me to the zoo
and we'd have fun the whole day through,
we'd walk around for miles and miles
and he'd buy me little snacks.
Later when I could walk no more,
I'd be carried piggy-back.

Then came a time he had to leave,
it left my Mommy full of grief.
But "Gramps" I just want you to know,
you were definitely my hero.
My best friend,I miss you each day,
so good night, God bless
and as you would say,
friends it's time for me to go, so
fare-thee-well and cheerio!.

As usual -  full of feeling. Nostalgic poems like this always touch me.  Adults loved to do those 'magic' tricks then with children (the penny) I wonder if they do this nowadays? I see from a previous comment that you made of children being so much more content years ago with much less - it seemed that way - all I needed was a book or some paper and pencils.  I love the medal and the bee on the knitted figure.

Thanks a lot Shelly Yes I had quite a bit of fun knitting the doll and writing the poem.As a child I can remember long hours playing outside with all the other kids in the neighbourhood too. No computers no mobile phones No TV only occasionally "watch with mother" Ha ha

You are welcome - it was nice to see the poem as I sometimes go through periods where I feel nostalgic and not for any particular reason - just comes over me!  I thought about my own grandad, whilst reading and remembered that he was not the knee bouncing type, as yours was, but anything broke he could fix - quite a useful skill.
