Description "What is this place?" Drust wondered aloud, venturing deeper into the cave he had found half-disguised a short distance away from the central cave system of Skrekrill. He had only wanted to get away from his father for a while, and to not be bothered by one gang or another. He just wanted room to think, and somehow ended up in this secret cave filled with human things. Scrolls littered the floor, mostly rolled up and shoved into corners and rock shelves, but some were spilled open across boulders and others were nailed up into the stone walls to be illuminated by the midday sun streaming through natural vents in the cavern's ceiling. Bottles of ink and brown-gray feathers sharpened into points were clustered here and there around the place.

Drust took a few steps closer to one wall, looking up at an animal hide with a familiar image carefully depicted on it- an image of Windsonde itself, the different territories carefully labeled. Another piece of parchment nearby bore a similar but less detailed image, with arrows pointing out from the different Aeries.

"What are you doing here?" hissed a voice suddenly from above. The kite-gryph's head snapped up to see a pair of luminous green eyes staring venomously down at him. He recognized this gryphon, had seen him a few times around the Aery, but they had never spoken- until now, there had been no reason to.

"I was just looking," Drust said quickly, aware of the trouble he could get in if word got out that he was poking around a Nachtbrag's cave. "I'll leave-"

"Wait," the owl-gryph cut him off suddenly, cocking his head slightly and appraising the younger gryphon. "What do you think?" At Drust's continued blank stare, he elaborated. "The maps."

"Oh- well, they're..."

"Useful, you think?" Drust blinked at the Nachtbrag's earnestness, confused why his opinion would matter.

"I suppose..." It seemed to be the right answer, or close enough, since the older gryphon immediately sank down onto his haunches, wrapping his tail around himself as he pondered something. "Can I... can I leave now?"

"Yes, leave," snapped the owl-gryph then, and the younger eagerly rushed from the cave, not quite sure what had just happened.

----

Briggen is horribly insecure about his maps (he's afraid he'll be accused of sympathizing with Twistoults or humans or something along those lines) and he's always debating with himself if he should try to explain their value to the Queen. So when he realizes Drust wouldn't want people to know about their meeting just as much as Briggen himself (for fear of being ratted on), he sees it as a perfect opportunity to get an outside opinion.

Briggen (the foot and tail) is mine.

wow briggen's been busy! look at all those maps... if only maud would SEE how useful they would be for planning raids, ambushes... no more embaressment when half your squad turns up at the wrong 'rock by that cave... you know the one where we beat that grandesque kid last week'...

love the lighting, and all Drust's feathers look amazing

XD Briggen's too much of a coward to just go and show them to Maud, though. His fears probably aren't unfounded, though.

Thank you!

Oh wow! I was not expecting to see this in my inbox, it looks so cool!
Drust you look so handsome! *risks cuddling him*
Nice look into Briggen's place, full of scrolls and whatnot, I get the feeling it's like a back 'room', a cave you can only see if you go right to the back of his normal domicile and peer behind a rock, tut tut Drust, being all nosy like the lil spy you are <3
The lighting is really effective, like shards of light falling through holes in the stone...

I'm really glad you like it! I had a lot of fun painting Drust. Would you like me to upload a larger format png of just him? I'm really happy with how he came out.

Thanks!

Interesting perspective. I think Briggen's closet hobby is really unique and endearing. Definitely something not something Zephyr has the attention span for lol.

Briggen's secret cave full of human things makes me think just a little bit of the "Part of your world" scene in The Little Mermaid However, my imagination fails me when I try to picture poor Briggen wistfully singing about how his dear maps will never come to anything if he doesn't show Maud.

I guess Windsonde: The Musical is not to be.

On a more serious note, I like the lighting in this illustration and the continuing story of Briggen's hobby. He's so interested in maps that he's got a SECRET CAVE FULL OF THEM, yet he's still too insecure to convince anyone else of their value. And he's not getting much positive feedback. Valcaur doesn't trust his own opinion-making ability and Drust was clearly willing to say anything to get out of there before he got into trouble.

LOL. Must doodle this.

Thank you! Yeah, poor Briggen is just WAY too insecure. X3 Poor fella.
