There's just something about pictures of this nature for me. There's like...a morbid beauty about them. She looks so tired...poor Sofia.

Yeah Infinite excels in story and characters, 1 focuses on story and being more like a horror game, 2 focuses more on characters and being artistic. HOWEVER, they have better gameplay than infinite to balance it out.

I actually sacrifice 2 of the side characters JUST so that I can have this b*ch die at the end of the game. It sucks that two not so evil people have to die for her to die.. but it's worth it. >: /

Alright, I read it, time for my rebuttal.
Alright, I agree with you, what she did in Hiroshima was great. It's actually a part of her life that the game probably should have alluded to in more detail because while I know she was, in her own words "in service of the common good" I never really connected that to missionary work. To be honest, the acts she preforms for "the greater good" in the actual game had me skeptical as to weather or not she'd ever worked towards THE greater good or HER idea of the greater good.
Admittedly I hold a lot of my hate for her simply in comparison to other game villains. Typically I like villains that can come off as badass or scary, even better if they have a sympathetic side. But in the words of Yhatzee, she "speaks in a voice so smug you wanna jam a comically oversize syring in her eye-socket every-time she opens her F*KING mouth." I KNOW what they were going for, they were trying to make her the polar opposite of Andrew Ryan, that's what they kept saying over and over in the pre-release teasers and interviews. But something about her just doesn't work, probably just with me I know.
You also have to know that I have quite the grudge against BS2, when I payed $60 for it on release night I booted up to get a crappy PC port of a console game. It's using the same graphics engine but somehow manages to look half as good as the first game, with bland washed out pixellated textures, bad frame rates, and a screwed up FOV. What's even worse is that the company refused to ever fix it even with tons of PC users yelling at them on the forums.
So because of that I support the first game %100, and since BS2 acts almost like bad fanfiction.. taking the original BS story and pasting major characters in under the assumption that you just happened to have never heard of them in the first game, I was initially at zero respect for any of the characters until they earned it. Almost all the characters did accept for Sophia, she tries to come off as this dangerously intelligent all powerful ruler.. you know, just like Ryan in the first game. But Ryan managed to do it a LOT better. When Ryan talks he actually scares you a bit by actually managing to make you see his points sometimes even though they're totally emoral. He's a deep and indeed sympathetic character with almost a Shakespearean story arch, turning into the very thing he hated most by trying to protect his city from them, that's deep.
When Sophia talks it's not at ALL the same. Hell the first time I played the game I couldn't even understand what the hell she was going on about. Then later I read up and understood her philosophy but even then. She never did the same thing for me that Ryan did, make me actually feel like MAYBE I could agree with her on some things or something. She just came across as a smobby bitch talking at you like she knows what she's talking about but is really just spouting nonsense.
Ehe... let me go back and read your post some...er.. *reading*... ah yes, Ryan was mad.
Yes, Ryan was mad, but he had every right to be. Sophia had it in mind to steal Rapture away from him the moment she got there, and all the audio logs show how she did it. Slyly and covertly hiding down in the slums. Taking advantage of the poor just like Fontaine did later. Manipulating them into worshipping her essentially. Her philosophy is such BS that it just made all the splicer followers she had worshiping her look like morons. Though I could understand, in their situation they'd probably follow anyone with hopes of a better life.
Like it or not, Rapture WAS Ryan's city. He planned it initially, and payed for it's construction out of his own pocket. It's funny because he might have not been aware at the moment but he was doing a pretty altruistic thing himself, providing this city for the best and brightest to all come and live in. But he was foolish in not noticing the flaw that in having built Rapture and thus owning it. By his own philosophy he shouldn't have to share it with anyone. That's what caused him to start turning more and more into a tyrant the more he stopped caring about the people and more about 'his city.'
But yeah, she came in, having anterior motives and tried to take Rapture from him, he had every right in my opinion to do everything he did to her. But arguing the morals of that and a lot of things in this game is hard just because of ALL the friggin' sides and complexity.. man what an amazing game. XD
As for Eleanor, that's where things get weird. B2 really started pushing the mystic elements of Adam, which was only kinda touched at in BS1. Essentially kinda hinting that a person's soul is embued into the ADam when it's injected into someone's body (or as Bill McDonagh says, a person's "memories") It's kinda hard to tell weather or not Sophia actually believed any of the stuff the church that surrounded her believed.
If she DID believe what the church preached, then yes what she was doing was altruistic. That being that all the poor splicers would have their memories or souls injected into Eleanor (still have no idea how she'd be able to hold that much Adam) and they'd all be one super organism, all these people inside of one person, and then Eleanor with them inside her would escape Rapture. (Sophia even suggests this when you ruin her plans and she says that they all have to die because the world wont accept them as they are, being freaky splicers, that's why they can't leave.)
But it seems to me that Sophia really only believed that the Adam would give Eleanor all the splicer's memories and knowledge making her like this super intelligent being. So actually in doing so she's tricking all the splicers with a false hope, not to mention that Eleanor doesn't want to do it to begin with.
So what's exactly Altruistic about that? It doesn't sound like she's trying to do something for the greater good (ie: the world at large) it sounds like she's trying to do something to benefit only Eleanor, thus putting her daughter before the rest of the world. I remember something about her saying that Utopia can't exist before the Utopian, whatever the F*k that's supposed to mean. So I guess that's what she's trying to do, turn Eleanor into a Utopian, but what's that supposed to achieve exactly? Was she just going to release Eleanor the Utopian into the world and somehow she'd convert the world into a Utopia? It sound's more like Sophia's delusional bullsh*t to me.
What do you say?

OKAY HERE WE GO!!!
1. PLEASE SPELL HER NAME CORRECTLY ITS BEEN TOLD IN CANON TO BE "SOFIA" SO PLEASE SPELL IT THAT WAY SORRY JUST NITPICKING BUT
2. Yes, you're supposed to hate her...her voice is meant to be so smug. She is a /villain/. She is the opposite of Ryan in her ideology.
"in the actual game had me skeptical as to weather or not she'd ever worked towards THE greater good or HER idea of the greater good."
That was literally the point. She starts off wanting the greater good but becomes corrupt with power, as becomes just as bad as Ryan, AKA Like Comstock and Daisy in Infinite.
3. Bioshock 2 is my favourite in the series and I thought Andrew Ryan was meh as well as all of 1 except Cohen. HOWEVER, if you were to draw a picture of Ryan, I would simply comment "Looks nice!" not "I HATE THAT BITcH". I was much more scared of Sofia than Ryan, because I wanted to trust her. Ryan I just didn't care about.
4. Are you seriously trying to say that Sofia's motives with what she's doing with Eleanor is.........EVIL???? PERHAPS THIS IS BECAUSE OH, I DONT KNOW SHE'S THE.... VILLAIN????
Oh my god I'm not saying she's a perfect little angel, she goes crazy by the end but like, she's a good villain, even if you hate her, in fact, that makes her a BETTER villain.
She had good intentions with Eleanor, but again, ended up corrupt.
I find her to be an amazing character, much more interesting than the bioshock 1 stuff, mostly because I was already spoiled for 1.
I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO LIKE HER, BUT JUST UNDERSTAND SHE IS AN AMAZING CHARACTER AND ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS BIOSHOCK 2 IS GREAT OK

To be honest I never really like Lamb. I mean, I don't hate her, but the fact still remains, she tried to start Instrumentality. I was pretty sure you were going to fight her at the end. Still, I played the game like I play most decision games. As if I were the character. And so she ended up living. Which I was happy with. ^_^
