Description Aphrodite. Loosily based on Botticelli's "Birth of Aphrodite".
I used Faber Castell and Sakura Pigma Micron liners and Copic and Flex Markers on printer paper. I scanned the drawing and added the background digitally.

(You can't even imagine how frustrated I am right now, I have tried typing this description 10+ times and it won't take any copy paste either).

Beautiful picture! Love the anatomy. She looks just like the classic Greek ideal of beauty. I love the shading on her skin, as well as the texture on her hair. Very pretty.

I love the choices you made with color in this.  The pink shadows and warm light contrast well with the blue background and give it a romantic feeling.  The softness of the shading is fantastic as well, especially for the subject.

The softness in your technique and the voluptuous figure really give the piece a classical feeling, despite the modern nature of the inking and stylized, sparkly hair.

If you want suggestions on anything to change, the signature placement is a little weird and distracting.  You have a good visual flow through the top of the piece (face, hair through body, mirror, off the page), but if you eye travels down from the arm it gets a little trapped at the feet because the signature is too distracting.  If you move it slightly to the left or right, it would be easier to read and also out of the way.

Great job!!!

Thank you very much!
My blushes.

I completely understand what you are saying about the signature, but I have had people take my art and just crop the sig out of the picture to use it for their own purposes, so I want the sig to be ON the character somehow. O.o I felt that the feet would be the least distracting. It's sad, but people can't be trusted these days.

Eye catching.
The colours and forms give it a slightly cartoony look and yet you've still manage to capture the classical inspiration of the piece.  Your Aphrodite does indeed look classical Greek especially in the face and features.

I find it interesting how you've chosen the curvier classical Greek figure over the modern ultra... dynamic one

Your shading of the skin tones is really nicely done, and stands out really strongly due to the colour differentiation. Like me, do you find that markers make it much easier and more likely to adopt a slightly Manga approach like this in colouring?

I'm also curious what size of paper you work on?

Edit.

Thank you so much.

It just felt appropriate here to make her more curvy, somehow.

I do like using a lot of colours for the skin. Yes, I have found that when I use markers everything I make instantly looks more Manga-ish. I have yet to figure out why, but it is not a bad thing.

I used A4 paper (210 by 297 mm)

I like the colors you used in this piece. They create a harmonious palette to the overall composition of the artwork.
The hair, in my opinion, is okay but I think it needs to be more loose and more flowing.
Although the background does not contradict with the main figure, I think the background theme would also be the same with the figure. Baroque borders, for example.

*thumbs up*

Thank you very much.
I agree with what you're saying about the hair, I have always had trouble with drawing flowy things and the hair turned out a lot more solid than I had hoped for.
Oh, baroque borders would have looked interesting.

You're welcome.

I recommend looking at the gallery of this artist: agnes-cecile.deviantart.com/
She's one of my favorite artists. She uses traditional wet medium (watercolor, paints... etc)

There are some amazing hair references you can find there.

When I saw this I though it was all done digitally, the marker work on her skin tone is well done in a sort of sketchy way. I really like how you've shaded her skin, and even though her face is shaded you can still see the blush and make up. I really like the classical profile and how her torso and legs are done. The shiny surface of the mirror is well done too. I've been having trouble figuring out how to do that cartoon short hand of a mirror in markers, and it's cool to see that rendered. The background is simple but gives it just enough to keep it from being a boring white background.

I like the flowers and pearls in her hair, although I would have liked to have seen more little pearls strewn through her hair.

One problem is that her hands and feet look sort of cartoony and chubby, and doesn't really fit the rest of her body. They're posed well, but it looks like a different style.

Thank you very much.
I'm quite proud of the colouring.

I agree with the pearls. I just was a bit hesitant to overdo it I suppose.

Ah yes. I changed the hands and feet a couple of times in the sketch atually, not really sure what to do with them. I tried making them more...elegant or delicate, but I was afraid of making them too small. I don't really like how they turned out. I think the feet are okay-ish, because they are not so much in focus, but the hands... Ow well, better luck next time I guess.

There's a fine line between overdoing and underdoing something.

And the hands and feet look proportionate and well posed, it's just the style they're done in. But hands and feet are really hard to do
