Description When you ask people in Thailand what they think of Bangkok, they almost immediately complain about the traffic. I was stunned when I saw traffic here. A good portion of it is motorcycles, including motorcycle taxis. They weave their way between lanes, between other vehicles, on the sidewalk, etc. to get to the front of the pack. When the light turns green, they're off with a sound like an enraged hive of bees. This is what it looked like to me.

Stunning capture! I was in Bangkok last month - I was one of those bikers waiting for the light to turn green. Crazy city. Crazy traffic!

there's so many drivers because apparently, they can just pay for their license.
and for them, most of the money is in driving tourists around =]
my dad lived in bangkok for a year, we just came back from our third time there.
I recognise this place too, our appartment was just down the road I think =]

Very nice picture. You are absolutely right, the traffic is horrible. I actually got hit on the back by a motorcycle mirror while riding in a Tuk-Tuk.

That’s an awesome picture though, and I know I will never complain about Los Angeles traffic again.

i like this image very much because it reminds me of my time in Asia. you should see Vietnam, or maybe you have.. astonishing number of motorcycles there. this is great, though. you had a nice vantage point.

you should. it's amazing. there is a constant stream of them and they don't stop for pedestrians. you just walk and they swarm past you.

i really like how most of the cars are in focus and the motorcyles are out of focus. really magnifies the difference between these two forms of transit even more. i sat on a street corner in Thailand for a good 20 minutes just to listen to the traffic. but trust me, Thailand traffic, even Bangkok, has nothing on Inidian traffic. and don't even get me started on the trains.

haha yes i heard about indian traffic. did you like it in india? i may make it to india some day...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hettar7 In reply to superkev [2005-09-10 01:56:53 +0000 UTC]

you know how you always hear people who've been there say India is a love/hate thing? i always thought it was cliche. but it's true. well, there was more of the latter than the former for my part. I would still recommend going though. it's a great experience.

I loved the Taj Mahal. It just came alive for me. One of the only places where I didn't even have to close my eyes to almost see the past. Dharmashala, the Tibetan refugee community, was also amazing. beautiful country and people. there are so many colors, smells, and noises in India. it's always stimulating.

I HATE indian trains though, and by the time i was ready to leave i hated the indian people who were on the trains as well as anything that had anything to do with india ever. The country is dirty, even in the big cities. There are beggars everywhere, very pitiful ones. Thailand doesn't compare. It seems like everyone is only out go get into your wallet.

still ... i hope you make it there. i would recommend going with someone who's been before. or even better with a native returning home. it's an experience that is ultimately worth it. let me know if you do go. I can at least offer helpful advice and at most offer to go with you.

superkev In reply to Hettar7 [2005-09-10 14:41:55 +0000 UTC]

thank you. i've heard many of the same things... that the trains can be a wild ride, and that people always have their hand in your pocket. but i guess that's not surprising considering the abject poverty they experience. i'll certainly let you know when i plan to go. there are a few other places on my list ahead of india, but some day before i die...
