The funny thing is that Luigi (a Nintendo character) is opening an Xbox (Microsoft product). Maybe that's why Nintendo has always put him second to his brother...

Nintendo sold Rare to Microsoft, but all of the DK characters still stayed with Nintendo. Still, it probably fueled a competition between the two companies...
