Description
Took 7 hours on this one. I'm pretty happy with it. I may do some more work on it and put it in my Professional portfolio.
Oasis is a one of a kind planet. Considered the Blue Jewel of the Reginald Major solar system, It’s always spring and sea life thrive here (Think about it as is Florida was a planet). The planet is not the only thing of beauty here, Oasis's very own Aquara are considered the most beautiful and elegant race in the known universe. Sadly, Aquara beauty is not just easy on the eyes, but their skin is worth more than any material on earth. After Oasis and the Aquara were discovered, it did not take long for pirates and poachers to try capturing and selling Aquara on the slave market, uses include Skinning, slavery, and in some cases being cooked and eaten.
Fortunately for the Aquaras, the race trafficking is hardly a problem anymore. Despite the passive and peaceful nature of the aquara, they have one of the greatest secret forces known. The Dead Water Black Opts are some of the most hardcore, badass and deadly forces on any world. They are called Dead Water because no one can see them coming. Poachers and pirates don’t stand a chance against these lethal weapons. Currin was once a member of this group, and In terms of hand to hand combat Currin can easily beat Veiara (though not if Veiara had room to run) and just about anyone else in the UGU military, but in the D.W.B.O. she is only a 8 out of 10. If not for the brave and hard work the D.W.B.O. do behind the scenes, the entire Aquara race could have been extinct by now. This joyful Aquara above could have been someone's floor mat, swimsuit, house slave, laminate countertop, or a tasty fish fry with a side of wine. In order to keep this gem of a world safe, it takes some hands getting dirty...but it's worth it for a look of joy like that.
But enough grim talk, let’s talk about this pic. This is the Lily lantern forest, Home to the Lantern melons, and hangout for the young Aquara. Aquara live in the shallows of their planet. The fish is a flame tail spinner. They twist their bodies from side to side to swim.
Aquara make most of their trade as a vacation spot for other races. Aside from this, Oasis also do trade with Ice 7 (which is essential to space travel), and Obsidian steel (which is stronger than any metal on earth). Both come from the depths of the planet and take special Vehicles that can stand the extreme pressures to mine these minerals. Sea food is another great trade Oasis has. Nothing like Oasis fishing.

yeah, people are messed up sometimes. Sad thin is I could totally see the human race doing this to an alien species if we had the chance.

The galaxy's Ethics code is a weird thing is a dangerous place! In my scifi time I have made aliens use Human sperm as a drink mix and I have seen in other Scifi novels human infants are used as food.

well considering that humans sell their own kind here on earth, I can totally see other races doing similar things.

Well yeah I have a rulling class of Krullians who sell their own into slavery under 'indentured servant' titles.

Very nice image and interesting species. I like when people try to find bad sides of species, I do the same to mine.
The image is beautiful, it also reminds me allot of the creepwines from Subnautica as they have very similar looking yellow glowing "seed clusters" as they are called in the game but stil different as here they hang from lilys.

YES!!! I love that game to death. I can't wait till the full version comes out. In all honesty I kind of made Oasis with Subnautica in mind. The creep vines also were inspiration but I didn't want to make it to similar. Good eye for catching that mate. Its definitely one of my biggest inspirations for water scenes.

Yeah I really love the game as well. Played through it many times even in VR. It is one of the coolest games I've tried in VR and I hope they make the VR mode better in the future, it is really lacking animations. Recently they did fix allot of problems with it. The handcrafted world and everything is truly amazing piece of art. They recently finished up most of the story "a few elements is left" so in a few updates I guess the game enter Beta stage to begin major bugfixing to prepare the game for release later this year "hopefully".

I have purposely not read or watched anything about it since May because I want to play the full version without spoilers. I do know that the ghost leviathan is going to be the game now which is something I desperately wanted. Just the whole concept of a game underwater on an alien world with giant monsters is like the best idea ever. This coming from a guy that hates the ocean and is terrified of Sharks.

I personally also hate the ocean. My dad has barely even been able to drag me to fishing xD. And I hate to bath in it because of my jellyfish fear, we have this common orange jellyfish in Norway that burns. I dont like jellyfish at all.
But I love subnautica. The gameplay is oddly satisfying and relaxing, which is why I have played it for a number of times but I will stall the game play myself until release now. My last playthrough was the silentrunning update which stil lacked the most important story elements on the end.

Yeah jellyfish are no joke either. Usually they won't bother you if you dont them. Sharks on the other hand, dont sleep EVER, are always hunger, cant get cancer, smell blood miles away, make no noise, have skin like razors, and rows of bone crushing teeth. I think I would kill myself if they developed legs and lungs because there no way I would live in a world With walking eating machines.

A beautiful race with such a grim history. As awful as it is for the aquara, I really like the story, as well as your choice to write it, because perfect species are boring.
