There are a million reasons one might favorite this piece, but for me, the most striking point is the hidden back wing (right), the very tip is bent against the rock the subject is sitting on, which for me, brings in the element of belief into the foreground, if it had fallen behind or just grazed the face of the rock, it would not have been as striking to me.
The color palette is stunning, and well suited to the theme and feel of both the character's appearance, and the emotion portrayed.
The subject has a very natural look on their face, and the skin shading and muscle tones are very well done, my only curiosity is whether or not this person is a feminine male, or a masculine female, their gender escapes me, which is the only thing that can take away from this truly epic work of art, but on the other hand, the gender might very well peak the viewer's curiosity in a positive light - adding an element of mystery.
The birds in the background carry the same light feathery feel as the wings in front, and the waves are a nice smooth contrast to the very intricately shaded skin and clothing.
Very nice job!

I'm glad you like. I admit, the wings were the hardest part of this pic for me. In fact, I'm still not satisfied with them, but I could only tweak them for so long!

My personal favorite part is the wave, I think. It's the first time I've done something like that, and I thought it turned out really well.

Oh, the figure is supposed to be androgynous. I wanted to give it an inhuman quality--this isn't just a person with wings, but a completely different species. I wanted it to have delicate, sharp features and to be sort of like a sparrow in that it doesn't have too many obvious secondary sexual characteristics.

Did you intend it to be male or female? I guess it doesn't matter; it looks mostly male to me apart from the long hair, but I wanted to know what the artist indended. X)

Really great! The large proportion of the feathers in the wings would look awkward but here, it just makes the lean figure look strong and empowering! I love the background with the waves and the mist. Glad to see it finished!

Thank you! I wasn't sure about the wings--I tried several different versions before I ended with these.

Good work, I like her face. I see you've requested critique, so one thing I think could be improved are the wings. I think it would have paid off for you to find a decent reference and work from that.

Thanks. I did find several references, but wings are hard! Bird wings don't look right on people, you know?
