Lovely job with the lotus. I like the colors you've used. How are you liking your watercolor pencils?

Aww thank you the watercolor pencils are AMAZING! It's just difficult to control the water flow sometimes

You're welcome!
It is! Are you coloring on the paper and then adding water to that? I used to take a wet brush to the tips to get color and then apply that to paper with the brush.

Yeap, I color then add water and wait for it to dry. Then I repeat this process all over again i tried using the wet brush to the tips method too but I found that it damaged the pencils >.<

Sorry for the late reply!

Ah yeah that's what I would do too. If you add too much water then yeah the pencils may get damaged. I tried to keep it just to the lead part since you can always sharpen it to reshape your tips.

Yea my little sister used some of them and killed them with too much water >.< I usually keep it a bi sharpened but not too much so then I won't ruin the paper

Ah no! Did you tell her how you'd like them to be used if she uses them again? Oh yeah very true. Too sharp and you'll ruin the paper.

Awesome! The flower looks like it's sparkling!
I haven't quite got the hang of watercolor pencils yet... do you have any tips?

thank you!
Hmm tips? Well it took me awhile to experiment and I still don't think I'm that great with them but you should test out soem techniques
Here's what I picked up:
- less water for more color, more water to make it lighter
-let shades dry first before working on a diff shade of color
- you can also make the paper wet and then apply the watercolor pencil but the color is VERY strong so be careful
- lastly, DO NOT dip the pencil into water! It breaks it!

I hope those helped? they were very basic I'm not so good at explaining either.

This looks very good, and really realistic
As stated above though, I think it would look even more real if you removed the outlines

Thank you And yea I'll work on that in the future they were supposed to be shadows or something but it ended up looking like outlines I guess

This is really beautiful. You did a good job on it. But there's one thing I would advice, if you like:
Try to remove some "outlines" oh the pettals. I would say that the vertices should get some highlights.
And then, add some ligher colours to the top of the picture and add some darker colours (without much saturation) to the bottom in order to add more depth to it.
But this is only a little tipp, all in all it's a wonderful piece!

Susaleena In reply to ProfelisAurata [2009-11-04 15:32:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for the tips Yes, I believe I rushed this a bit as the outlining was an accident and I felt a bit too lazy to adjust that I'm glad you have such a good eye and were able to tell me of my flaws It helps me to better myself as an artist, thank you

also..I believe the scanner I currently have messes with the saturation and colors of the picture =[ it's so much more prettier as a hard copy...Maybe I should start selling my works because the scanner doesn't do them any justice!

I like your insight and commentsand..
I'm not sure about that I feel that my art skills isn't perfected enough yet so I don't really think there would be anyone who would want to buy maybe you could prove me wrong?

ProfelisAurata In reply to Susaleena [2009-11-11 15:06:25 +0000 UTC]

Sorry...I'm always late |D (I had (and still have) a lot to do and many messages pile up, here )
In my opinion, there's no one who totally perfect. Everybody has to improve their skills and you improve yourself only if you practise a lot and watch closely your environment.

aw don't be sorry I have a lot of work too so it's understandable
It's true no one's perfect but I'm always looking to improve and better myself so I feel down when I can't reach certain goals or get to a certain level that I want to achieve t

Yeah, I quite understand that. The same applies to me I'm often unsatisfied with myself but I try to think positive and if I can't reach my aim asap I'll have a break and try on that later. =]
