The stylised hands are based on Hellboy artwork. But I think I was also considering the odd abstract scenes in that Grossology cartoon.

I was trying to pick colours that were more lifelike than my usual, and really push the contrast and shadow.
Now comes the perpetual question; Can I do it again or was this a fluke?
