Wow, I'm on a roll here....I really need to do something other than all of this Maizu fluff.
Even if Mai is finally starting to look good--practice really DOES pay off!
Drawn without reference....
Initially, I was aiming for something a little cuter with a deviation intended to be called "Returning the Favor," with Zuko holding an umbrella above a sodden-looking Mai with the classic raincloud over her head (you know, the one that miserable cartoon characters have....). But then I knew that Zuko had to have one, too. I initially thought of having a symbolic one where panel one has Zuko with an umbrella with holes in it, panel two has Mai with another holed umbrella, but when they stand together, they can match the holes to the sealed points and thus protect themselves from their gloom clouds....but then I decided to take the easy way out and just do this. I also decided to shippify it by putting Mai's head on Zuko's shoulder. And so they both sit under the umbrella, and while there, neither of them has to feel gloomy. Which is pretty much my view of the Maizu ship--alone, they are sad and incomplete, but together, they can be happy. Even if they do end up in fountains.
Don't ask about their arms....I'm really happy with Mai's one hand, I mean SUPER happy....but the arms are a bit of a problem. I'll work on those. And Zuko's head looked fine before, but I hate it now. Mai, on the other hand....

So, that's that.
Mai and Zuko belong to the creators of Avatar (who like Mai, apparently, for all you Mai-haters out there) and the owners, Viacom and Nickelodeon.
The clouds are theirs.
The pic is mine. No thefting.
Oh, and yes, Mai's in her standard garb while Zuzu's in his final outfit....that one's easier to draw, and Mai's is more gloomy-Mai.

It's my fanmission.
The subtle Maizu nudges...I don't intend to convert people at all. What I DO intend to do is set it up so that people don't end up disgusted if Maizu happens in the canon. Warm people up a bit....you never know what might shatter a season's respect. Especially in the minds of shippers.
So I guess the answer is yes....XD

Seriously this is quite adorable. Her head on his shoulder was quite the sweet touch-it's more precious than should probably be allowed. I love how happy they seem. That's how I view this ship, if they make each other happy then joy and kudos to the both of them. Anywho, great job

Yes...one question that I often consider asking die-hard Zutarians is, "If Mai wants to be with Zuko and Zuko wants to be with Mai and Zuko makes Mai happy and Mai makes Zuko happy, why shouldn't they be together?"
But I haven't asked that yet....

Well personally that's the biggest part of shipping for me... But there is no way on this planet I'll ever except Ty Lokka
And we know Maizu would make Mai happy so, I can be happy for that if he reciprocates. And if he's seriously eeped out (which I seriously doubt given Ms. DeLisle's comments) well, then at least it will make for some good drama.

Yeah, I don't think I'll accept Ty Lokka, either. I considered it before...until I re-watched "Serpent's Pass" and saw how strong and beautiful Sukka was....and then, of course, came "Crossroads of Destiny." Where the ship reached its epic climax and spontaneously combusted at the same time. It committed ship suicide in a manner that made Zutara look like an amateur. Even though that had technically not happened yet...but still....
My only worry is that Mai with turn out to be selfish and controlling. Which isn't impossible. It's unlikely, though...the main reason being that this is the Fire Nation Prince we are talking about.
But you know...you can see her whole unwillingness to follow Azula's orders at her own expense as simple self-centered priggishness. You can see Mai as a brat, and it's hard to argue against that.
Hopefully, she won't turn out to be one....

Well, I didn't meet Ty Lee the same time everyone else did. I took an Avatar hiatus because Nickelodeon was disgusting me (seriously it's REALLY hard to turn on the tv to that channel without catching spongebob in a timeslot of what used to be an awesome show) And I only came back intime to catch the Secret of the Fire Nation tv movie (I did still love Avatar). Then I back tracked a bit on YouTube to catch up on...heheh everything since King of Omashu or Imprisoned, don't remember which was the last I saw before blacklisting Nick (stupid really, only hurt me...).
In all honesty, I don't think she really knows the first thing about Sokka personality wise. She's just impressed with his looks, and to be fair, she IS just a fourteen year old girl 
I'm definitely a bit worried about how Mai will react to Zuko. She is self-centered, and the possibility does in fact exist that she could get a bit punch drunk on power. Azula's VA did say she's got Zuko whipped. Now I know that this is almost definitely a first relationship for Zuko (one date and a stolen kiss does not a relationship make) but that's still a LOT of power to weild over a prince. Also, they say its always the quiet ones ya need to watch for...

Well, she might be fifteen.
She's got a crush...but she can go with Haru. Or whoever she wants, really. She probably has a fanclub back home....all of the young Firebenders trying to impress her....she'll be a flirt.
Mai...yeah, it could be ill...the only thing that gives a bright side to her potential is how shy she seems in the start. She's very...innocent there. Now, she is the girl with stilleto launchers all over her body, but....

True Ty Lee could be 15, but I doubt both of them are older than Azula. And she probably had her fair share of admirers even in the circus.
As for Mai, most little girls are shy about crushes. It did start out innocently, but she could prove to get a kick out of the power she'll have over Zuko. The very large amount of sharp pointy things that girl carries is a bit alarming, but I don't worry about it...much.
