Description Charles Kingsley's The Water Babies is the classic Victorian fairy-tale originally written in 1863, and later adapted into a 1978 film and recently a stage musical. It was even dramatized in the BBC Radio but Paul Farley's version is even more interesting, even if it wasn't available here in the Philippines. My rendition combines elements of all these versions but with modernization, mermaids, selkies, cecaelia, gillpeople, Atlantis and underwater beings and creatures alike.

Ariadne (the ginger-haired water baby with orange fins, freckles and green eyes) was the first water baby to meet Tom when he and his friends reached St. Brendan's Grove. For many years, she has been living there with all the water babies, who are all mistreated and abused children and adolescents alike from all over the globe. She tried to warn him not to play pranks on sea creatures and told him that Mrs. Bedonebyasyoudid is coming. She was given a sea toffee by Mrs. Bedonebyasyoudid and went off to play with the other water babies while Tom had his own shenanigans but she helps him learn to be kinder and more generous, with the help of Aquaria. During his time in the ocean, he bonded with her as they, along with Toby Jock, Terrence and Claude hang out with the members of Funkadelic Ocean. She was able to tell them about what happened to the other water babies and how they got fishnapped. At the end, she, along with everybody else bid farewell to Tom and Toby as they return to the surface.

The water babies are all mistreated and abused children and adolescents who were taken by the fairies to St. Brendan's Isle. They all come in diversity, ranging from Caucasians, Scandinavians, Irish, Scottish, Americans, Europeans and First Nations to Africans, Polynesians, Malays, Asians, Middle Eastern, Hispanics, Latinos and Indians. The female water babies have their hair in different hairstyles, from pigtails, ponytails, braids, buns and many more. Each with colored frilly fins, webbed hands and feet but they also accessorize their hair with seaweed, pearls, seashells and corals. The male water babies also have different hairstyles too but they possess colored webbed fins.
