Description
The crackling of fire and the sound of a page turning in a book were somehow the only sounds in the Goldstein's apartment right now. Usually the apartment is full of chaos, Jacob constantly marveling at the small bits of magic (and Queenie), Queenie chatting happily to him, and Tina having to dash in and out if MACUSA needed her. Newt tended to stay hidden away in his briefcase with his creatures, but would sometimes emerge to talk about new discoveries he's made.

Usually this whole time, you're trying to read. But you never do read much, as something always happens that breaks your concentration.

But since the apartment is so oddly quiet today, you thought you'd sit down and read. Seems like the best thing to do once you finally have quiet. Not that you were angry about it, you liked living in a lively place, not a silent one.

And since Queenie and Jacob are out all day in the bakery, and Tina is investigating a case with other Aurors, and Newt is, well, Newt, you weren't exactly going to have an entirely eventful day.

So, with a merrily crackling fire, and a content, cozy feeling, you settled down near the fire and began to lose yourself in a childhood tome.

However, just when you realized you had complete silence and bliss, the door to Newt's room creaked open. You glanced up, and saw Newt quietly come into the room, Pickett sitting on his shoulder. You sent him a smile, and he smiled back, although he looked away from you and at the floor, cheeks flushing lightly.

You ignored it, thinking it was just typical Newt (even though you were blushing too), and continued reading.

Newt gently closed the door behind him, so as to not distract you, but eventually he spoke up softly and said, "Why are you reading a Muggle book?"

You looked up at him. "Oh, this? It's from my childhood, my parents still read me Muggle books as well as wizarding books, they thought I'd like some of them."

He nodded. "What book are you reading now?"

"A Christmas Carol." You replied, showing him the cover. "Charles Dickens is a famous Muggle writer. Also, it's almost Christmas, so I couldn't help myself." You grinned.

Newt smiled, and looked away for a second, before looking back at you. When he did, however, you had gone back to reading, though you had a soft smile on your face.

He felt Pickett nudge his cheek, and glancing at him, Pickett pointed at you sternly and nodded. Newt slouched his shoulders in defeat, before slowly going to sit next to you. You felt the sofa move next to you, and you paused for a second before continuing to read.

"So what do you like about Christmas?" Newt asked casually, looking up at the ceiling. You looked at him skeptically for a moment before closing your book, placing it on the table in front of you.

"Well, I like winter, warm clothes, the decorations, the songs, the mistletoe-" You blushed a little when you said this, and Newt raised a curious eyebrow. You sighed.

"Well, because-you know, um-the thing where two people are under mistletoe and they-have to-"

Newt realized what you were about to say, and simply said, "Ah.", before blushing like you did. He looked down at his hands, which were clasped together on his lap.

He glanced at his shoulder, looking at Pickett for more advice, but he realized he was gone.

"Pickett?" He said aloud, and you looked up at Newt, eyebrows scrunched in confusion.

"What about Pickett?" You asked. Newt was looking all around him worriedly, behind the sofa, on the table, in a slight panic.

"He's gone, he was here on my shoulder-"

And then he saw him. Pickett was standing on your head.

And he was holding mistletoe just above your head.

Newt felt his face flushing red, and your face broke out into concern.

"Newt, are you okay? You've gone really red?" You asked him, grabbing his hands and moving closer to him. "Is something wrong?"

Newt had become a stuttering, blushing mess. He glanced up at Pickett, who was beginning to wave the mistletoe above your head, sticking his tongue out at Newt.

Newt sighed, "Oh, all right then, have it your way."

You were about to ask him what was wrong, but before you could say anything, he quickly leaned in and pressed his lips softly to yours. Your eyes shut, but you gasped, and your hands let go of his, holding themselves out in surprise. Newt gently placed one his hands on your cheek, and in return, you grabbed the collar of his shirt, to bring him closer to you. He obeyed, shifting closer to you, and you smiled.

Newt carefully broke away from you, still cradling your cheek in his hand, and you both opened your eyes, looking at each other for a few seconds in amazement. You smiled sheepishly, and he returned it, giving you a warm, dazed smile, which made your heart melt.

After a few moments, he looked just above your head and said, "There, are you happy now?"

Confused, you were about to ask him when Pickett suddenly jumped down onto your hands, and you jumped. When you saw he had the mistletoe in his claws, you rolled your eyes and smirked.

"Well, aren't you just so clever?" You said, and Pickett grinned. You set him down on the table.

"I didn't know Pickett was helping you with your love life." You teased, and Newt blushed.

"Neither did I, honestly." He said, looking away from you. You giggled, and gently tugged the mistletoe out of Pickett's grasp.

"Well, what are we waiting for? There's still mistletoe here..." You teased him even more. "Aren't you going to kiss me again?"

Newt, still flushed pink, looked back up at you. You waved the mistletoe playfully in your hands, and he smiled, said, "I would like to, yes," And pressed his lips to yours again, humming contentedly.

He was going to have to get Pickett a very nice Christmas present to say thanks.
