Description Before STAR WARS, before the FIFTH ELEMENT, before AVATAR, there was VALERIAN AND LAURELINE!!

Born in 1967 in the minds of French comic creators Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières. Valerian and Laureline is one of the longest running SCI-FI comics in existence, and barely anyone knows about them in the US. Valerian is a Space/Time agent from the future, while Laureline is his partner from 10th Century France. The roam both space and time battling aliens, robots, and just about everything in between. In their early adventures the duo work for Galaxity, the Capital of the Terran Galactic Empire. Then in a volume published in 1985, Galaxity vanished from existence and the duo became freelance adventurers.

Throughout it's run from 1967 till 2010, the series has been written by Christin and drawn by Mézières. That's 43 years these two men have devoted to one comic! The comic has been cited as a major influence on Luc Besson's THE FIFTH ELEMENT. Mézières even worked on ELEMENT as a designer (the famous flying cars are his creation). In 2007 the series was made into a Franco/Japan anime series called TIME JAM: VALERIAN AND LAURELINE. The central image of this wallpaper is the cast from that show. (BTW where is a US release of that on DVD??)

So this is my tribute to them, hopefully it'll raise more awareness to this incredible comic.

Made with Photoshop Elements 8 and MS Paint.

This is great. I thought of a character after reading about the series, and she was related to Valerian & Laureline. Sadly in the finale they sent the newborn to a space colony the 30th century while they go to Paris.

Maleri she is infact there daughter born before the final battle. Xombul has 2 time ships that would be the final time jumps. While Valerian & Laureline were sent to the past like in the original finale of the series they sent there infant daughter Maleri to a Earth Colony in the 30th Century call PCM-67. She grew up on the colony till she found there old ship were she learn of her parents & rebuilt there ship with 30th century technology with a navigation A.I call Valeri becoming a freelance mercenary so while PCM-67 is her home she considers the ship her home as well. Try & guess what the Earth Colony is a reference too.

Barbarella, the Sci-Fi french comic character.  Made into a cult classic movie with Jane Fonda in 1968.  You might say she's the r-rated space adventurer.

Yep, I'm not asking for a team up between her and V&L to be a part of your fan fic.  Just thought it would be fun to see a team up between these two Sci-Fi French comic books

If stealing is the highest form of honor then George Lucas sure "honored" this series a LOT when he created the original Star Wars trilogy.

In 2006, I had the rare privilege to spend a few minutes chatting with Jean-Claude Mézières in San Diego when he attended ComicCon. He was a very energetic and pleasant gentleman.

He was also kind enough to add a quick personal sketch of one of his Shihgouz mercenaries to my copy of the last English adaptation of three of his stories. I wish I could have spent more time getting to know him.

Valerian and Laureline is one of my all time favorite graphic novel collections. Even if you can't read French, the images alone are worth the price of buying the books when you can find them.
