Not one I could see myself wanting to own, but I like the car, and appreciate how perfect it looks.

Not many people appreciate these cars... Which is how this happens:

If that had been a 1969 Camaro, people would have lined up to buy it and restore it...

Oh shit! Haven't seen a big body Cougar in a wrecking yard EVER. Let alone something remotely solid like that one.... that one definitely needs help in the wheel wells. But I bet she runs great, and the frame's still solid. Poor thing. Simple neglect will kill an old car faster than hard driving. Every. Single. Time.

Love the front clip on these Cougars. You can see they really tried to stay true to the iconic first gen's looks. And up until the MN12 generation, they did just that.

Sadly I see them in there all the time, it looks solid but honestly it's far from it. It and it's twin were too far gone to even make drivers out of (also no drivetrain in either).

As is the case with many northern cars.... saw a white '90 LTD Crown Victoria in a wrecking yard in Buffalo last weekend. Looked good from even a few feet. Imagine my surprise when the bottom of the driver's side front fender crumbled and exploded into bondo, rusted metal, and dirt when I gently pulled on it. I can't imagine older iron holding up much better.... rusty rollers like those Cougars you mentioned and photographed won't soon find good homes. A damn shame.

This is why I rarely venture into salvage yards.  I think my heart would break if I stumbled across something like this.  This photo is by

Thankfully I've been spared such a sight, though I've come close. Saw a white '68 or '69 Mark III at my favorite wrecking yard a few weeks ago. Could hardly believe my eyes. Looked really nice from 15 or so feet away. But upon closer inspection and finger-testing, the sad truth revealed itself. The rear quarters were literally 75% bondo, 25% flaky metal. It would just crumble and flake away in my hands. It was horrible. The bumpers and bumper supports were also very squishy. The only solid parts were the roof, trunk lid, hood, inner fenders.

On the flipside, I pulled TWO digital dash clusters from panthers at that same yard today- one from a '95 Town Car Cartier, another from an '02 Grand Marquis LS. Would've gotten the complete wiring harness for the Grand Marq's cluster, but I ran out of time. Ah well, it'll be there next week.

Too crumbly even for the derby guys!

Never thought I'd find a car like that! There are early '50s cars at that same yard that are far more solid. Incredible. In a very disturbing way.
