Purification (Active Cure)
A healing skill especially effective against illnesses and status ailments. The target is overcome by a high fever which cures their ailment, at the cost of a couple seconds of discomfort and faintness. The fever subsides completely within two minutes. Can only be used on one target at a time.
Regeneration (Active Cure)
A healing skill which mends physical injuries. The healing process itself is rather painful, not very unlike a localized burn. Small injuries like shallow cuts and bruises only take a couple seconds to heal, while larger injuries like deep cuts, broken bones, etc. can take up to several minutes. Sometimes the site of a severe injury will heal with burn scars from Valentin's healing skill. It's a much faster process than natural healing though. He has to have a line of sight to the target in order to use the skill. It's generally not a good idea to use the skill on persons wearing armour, since the metal becomes heated and can cause as much damage as the injury had to begin with.
Heat Haze (Passive)
Valentin is always surrounded by a faint heat shimmer. It becomes more pronounced when he's agitated or in tense situations like combat. In these cases it makes him (and those in immediate proximity to him) harder to hit from a distance.

Valetin's personality is very much exemplified in his skills--straightforward and efficient with no regard for the comfort of the patient. He doesn't speak very much, generally saving his words for when there is something that needs to be said. He treats the company of others as a necessary evil, and avoids it when he can, preferring instead the company of his lantern and his thoughts. Perhaps every once in a while he feels lonely, but it's a feeling that passes quickly.
Valentin is not a very gentle person, either in speech or manner. He rarely hesitates to comment truthfully when he feels there is need to do so, and wastes no energy on the delicate handling of objects or people. He is very much the sort to set a bone with no prior warning and no subsequent apology. He simply doesn't care enough. What he does care about, however, is getting the job done. Valentin is very much about the destination over the journey, and once he has a goal will let few things stand in the way.

☑ Story: Valentin woke up to the sound of thunder and the chill of rain. The fact that he didn't know who or where he was did not occur to him at first, for he was consumed by a sense of urgency to keep moving, keep running. Except the split seconds in which the world was illuminated by lightning, everything was pitch black. He tripped on rocks, slipped in the mud, ran into trees, but the paranoia drove him on. He didn't stop for a moment to wonder why he was running, what could have possibly been pursuing him. Eventually he found himself on the doorstep of a small wooden building, and pounded desperately against the door to be let in. Fortunately for him, the church would not refuse a man soaked to the bone, injured, and obviously confused.
It was the next morning, once he was rested and on his way to recovery, that Valentin met Johann Paige, the charismatic leader of the small sect of four priests who cared for the church. He asked Valentin his name, which the young man was concerned to find was the only thing he recalled. Aside from the terrible sense of being hunted--which still lurked in the back of his mind--he had no idea who he was or where he had come from. Or where he had ended up.
Johann explained all, about the world of Aesthia, about the humans who had begun to turn up with no knowledge of their past, and about their own humble little church, where Valentin was welcome to stay for as long as he needed.
Valentin welcomed the sense of normalcy and security into his life. He had found a safe harbour amid the chaos and danger of a foreign world, and he embraced it and all its peculiar rules. Not once did he think to question Johann's words, which were spoken with such confidence and simple clarity. Far from being doubtful, he was grateful to be among the few with whom Johann shared his knowledge of the strange world of Aesthia. In Valentin's eyes, the head priest could do no wrong, and he would lay down his life in an instant for him.
Suffice to say, Valentin did not leave. Soon, he had become one of Johann's most devout followers.
Then, a new adherent joined the fold. Valentin disliked him from the first. Not only did Hayden fail miserably as a priest, but besides chasing off the monsters did little to earn his keep around the church. On more than one occasion, Valentin voiced his complaints and implied that the newest member of the church had overstayed his welcome. He of all people should have been pleased when Johann finally decided to send Hayen away to investigate rumours of events corroberating the head priest's prophecies. Valentin, however, saw the mission as one of great importance rather than a shallow excuse to rid the flock of its black sheep. He couldn't accept that such a responsibility was entrusted to Hayden. For a while, he did his best to keep his mouth shut. After all, Johann had never been wrong before, why should he question him now?
As the weeks wore on though, Valentin got restless. Hayden had either found something worth investigating, or forgotten about his mission and gotten distracted. Either scenario warranted a follow-up. He begged Johann to let him go out and see for himself, and the request was eventually granted.
To his infinite disappointment, upon arriving at Elledolias Valentin learned that Hayden had neither perished nor vanished without a trace. He was alive and well and most certainly not doing as told. As usual.
