I think I'd go for a square crop. The real interest is in the left two thirds.

Agreed.

I shot squares all the time now, but even when I was shooting 3x2 digital I would often crop square. Among other things, it let me shoot my subject dead center for ease of automatic focus, then shift the image left or right by cropping.
