The Nemean Lion was a large lion native to Greece. The Nemean Lion terrorized the area around Nemea, killing and maiming unabated, as its golden hide was impervious to mortal weaponry. Eventually, Hercules was tasked with killing the beast, as his first labor. Hercules tracked the lion to its lair, before engaging it in combat. The battle was fierce, with Hercules unable to gain an advantage, as none of his weapons could pierce the lion's skin. After losing a finger to the lion, Hercules finally tried his club, bashing the lion over the head, stunning it. From here, Hercules managed to wrap his arms around the beast's neck, and strangled it to death. He skinned the lion with one of its own claws, and presented the carcass to the king, completing his first task.
