/BUSTS DOWN DOOR AFTER MANY MONTHS OF INACTIVITY

I joined a discord that does semi-frequent art challenges and had to revive my ability to draw. It was a lot of fun to stretch art muscles again. It has been... literal years since I did a fully illustrated piece from sketch to render. It has all the things I love that bring me great pain. Wonky perspective. Scales. Feathers.Water. We got it all!

Long-time watchers may remember Amelia and Fally. I love them dearly and am happy to place them into a setting that is a little less gloomy. There is very loose worldbuilding. A loose collection of ideas. I doubt I'll do anything with it - but I hope to use art challenges as a way to explore the setting and keep myself drawing. One thing I really want to do is learn an easier shading technique. This was fun to make for nostalgia's sake, but I've come to terms that I don't really like making things this neat. It takes too much time and I am very impatient. I'm still getting to grips with Clip Studio and have enjoyed the process thus far, but have barely scratched the surface of what there is to do with it.

I guess... Lore time!

Amelia was born and raised on the Kihui island chain that makes up the southern border of a large continent. Her best friend in the whole wide world is her giant bird, Fally. They've been together since childhood and go everywhere together. Amelia loves her home, but always wanted to explore beyond the islands. She started up her own delivery business to fund her travels. It's a lot of work, but she couldn't imagine doing anything else.

A fun thing about Fally is that she's a warbird - a species of massive birds that live in the craggy peaks of mountain ranges. They were tamed and bred as part of the Air Corps for the nation of Aluatia. They were bred for endurance and were eventually strong enough to cross the sea. A stray flock made their way to Kihui - where they nearly destroyed the local ecosystem. Big murder mountain birds didn't have any natural predators and could do whatever they wanted. The islands banded together and hunted the warbirds until the population dwindled, but they were not wiped out completely. They are now used for transport between the islands, fishing, racing, and other activities. Over time their drab gray/brown feathers were bred into a rainbow of colors. What was once an ecological disaster is now a point of pride for many Kihuins.
