Once again we're faced with a bird named "violet" without a hint of purple to be seen- but I am armed with KNOWLEDGE! Once upon a time, purple was grouped under the classification of blue, the same way we'd call seafoam a shade of green today. Blue things labeled violet are a hangover of that practice. In a similar vein, redheads are labeled as red even though their hair comes in shades of orange. Language is crazy.
