Description Taken at Lake Burrendong, Wellington N.S.W. on the 14.3.14 at 7:02pm EDST.

A quick capture of a return stroke -the end result of a very close strike! I think that it would've blown the image out if I was fast enough to catch the actual strike.
This is hitting around 300mtrs away on the other point jutting out in front of me. Looks as if it's hit an old tree stump as it appears to be burning something over there at ground level.
I was only running on finger reactions alone (around 1/10th sec.) at this stage as it was nowhere near dark enough for an exposure of any length and with such frequent strobing lightning you easily risk overexposing a bolt.

The double rainbow was pretty intense at this stage too. Very cool to see.

And yes, the resulting thunder crack from that bolt made me jump a little

Cheers John!

It was nice to be back in the danger zone for a change

The storm that came along about an hour after this was pretty crazy too. It was just a pure whiteout HP core. We had a bolt strike close enough to the cabin that we saw the burning pockets of air left behind while standing out on the porch getting blasted by rain. I figured it only hit about 40-50 yards away.

We're certainly having a strange season this year. It's well into Autumn/Fall and we are still in the mid 30˚c+ temps. Still getting storms here, though we're in a Mosquito plague currently. It would have to be a pretty stunning storm to get me out there now!

Hope all has been well!
