Maleficent and Chernabog are two of my favourite Disney characters. I'm not convinced Maleficent is wholly evil; mostly disrespected and misunderstood. And Chernabog's the Slavic god of night, which doesn't necessarily equate to being evil. Think about it.Copic sketch markers, Zig pen, 2004.

Both Maleficent and Chernabog are wholly evil. They're both evil incarnate and their only true motivations are causing strife and despair for others. It's what they exist to do.

Chernabog belonged to the story on which Night on Bald Mountain was based off of. In pagan times, according to tradition, the worshippers of evil would go to Bald Mountain (in Russia) to pay homage to the Black God Tchernobog.
Oh well. After watching Fantasia again and thinking about Mickey's house of villains, I like them as a couple and am thinking about doing some fanarts of them.

Actually very little is known for certain about the Slavic beliefs towards Chernobog, though much is speculated. The only sources that refer to it are Christian ones, which are obviously of questionable veracity. His name means 'Black God'. The name was only attested among West Slavic tribes of the 12th century which suggests that Chernobog was neither an important nor an old deity.

Dude, I really sorry about this... but when I read your comment and saw the word "Tchernobog", I read "Technochurnabog" for some reason and immediately a thought of a bunch of devils dancing in hellish different color changing florencent fire with Churnabog ing the middle being the DJ and twirling a glow stick with awesome giant black firey headphones on popped in my head.
....actually.... that sounds.... awesome. Maybe I'm not sorry about that thought. I might draw that. Either way, thanks for the inspiration!

Hades is not so bad as a villain but he's too goofy and talkative. And Jafar... Just... Bleh. Maleficent and Chernabog are considered to be the evil incarnations, so they're the best match.

Nice, the two main villains of The Kingdom Keepers. One thing though, I am pretty sure that they are evil. Maleficent cursed a newborn to die early just because she didn't get invited to a party. Also, Chernabog may have gotten his name and mountain from a Slavic god, but he is described by Disney as "Satan Himself", Which is definitely evil.

Maleficent might come back in the next Kingdom Hearts. However, I still cannot figure out why Chernabog was in the first Kingdom Hearts game. He had no motive or anything. Also, they have no journal entry of him in the game.

Maleficent always came off to me as more a villain who doesn't understand goodness and as such defaults to evil rather than choosing to do evil and relishing in it.
Consider, if you want, her behavior towards Sora near the end of KH2; while pragmatic and motivated by self interest, she does save his life more than once, rather than killing him herself out of revenge or anger. Also, note how she puts up with Pete's stupidity and history of failure... Maybe she likes having a loyal follower more than she'd admit to.
