It has been a while since I drew any coloured picture about Purple Qilin. This took a while since I didn't get any good background idea at first, then suddenly realized that a quite simple one with strong light/dark contrast (and swirls) works the best.Since Qilin doesn't care laws of physics , it could as well run on the rainbows and walk on clouds. It's really bizarre creature after all and it's better to not understand it, or it just causes brain cramp.
Compared to this oldest Qilin image it has got more less brushy tail. After all, it's supposed to be perfect (what else it could be, it a way too....sparkly to fit common fauna. x> )
Liner, aquarels, colour pencils, tint of white gouache (note to self: gouache and waxy soft colour pencils doesn't match).

Beautiful creature design! The colours work together very well, and the detail of the feathers and fur look great. I especially like the designs on the wings as well as the swirliness of that background! Nice work!

It is one of my personal favourite designs too (sometimes it's a wonder how a random scribble during a university lecture can lead to pretty creature).

Your creatures are always perfect in their own way, especially this one and I can imagine it doing whatever it wants just for fun, that's why it is awesome.
Also I wondered.. isn't that horn/blade on its head heavy? It can't be that comfortable.

It likes to "play" with people by using its own rules, like if somebody wants badly catch it - then it appears often and always disappears when that somebody is about going to catch it. (Never play with Qilin, it uses its own rules and always wins.)
Qilin's blade is literally a blade, it's a quite two-dimensional. Anyway, Qilin doesn't care physics (like that its helmet would drop. Actually that can't happen, the helmet is solid part of its face.)

I'm glad to see Purple Qilin again. This is such a neat creature. I also really like all of the swirls and textures in the background - those are wonderful!

Not only the tail (I liked brushy tail 8'<), the horn, wings and those feather things look larger on this one. I specially like the contrast in the background and the intense blue wings. The tail bugs me a bit, looks a bit plain compared with the rest of the critter.

You noticed the thing that disturbed me too (flat looking tail). |D I didn't get the coloration work right this time, so...FLAT. I like brushy tail like here [link] but not that how I drew it in the first image, it's too...natural. |D

Something my cousin mentioned to me, and i agree, It would look good in a background on Saturn's rings. I've done outer space back grounds quite a few times before in the past and i'd like to do one again. So I don't know why i didn't think about it before. But any-ways, i love this background too but, if you want to draw it with a background more in the future, I'd definitely go with an outer space background or a night sky with either, the moon, or an aurora.
