Description Reconstruction of the peculiar Romanian paravian Balaur bondoc. Member on the famous dinosaurian fauna of the Hateg island, it lived during the Maastrichtian (Late Cretaceous). Here, it is reconstructed as a velociraptorine dromaeosaur, as originally described. Some researchers classify this animal as a basal avialan (early bird).

This artwork was produced for the cover of the Bulgarian edition of Steve Brusatte's bestselling book "The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs".

Medium: Digital painting, Photoshop CS6.

This reconstruction, despite its controversy, has become my favorite of the entire series. I don't know which is cooler, those wings fitting perfectly into the whole body rotation, or the overall posture. The best "Stocky dragon" I've ever seen!

Thank you! I am happy with the dynamism of the posture, too. Although I am most happy with how I depicted the plumage over most of the body.
