For some reason I'm alwayssurprised by how illustrations of dinosaurs make me think of alien worlds - because I know, a lot of the world back then would be completely alien to us now.

Yes, it was an amphibian. My old books say that Ichtyostega was the first amphibian. I don't know if recently there were found older amphibian species.
