It looks like this painting has really caught on. Somebody is a little shy to admit they are a big fan of your work, Vladimir.

However they labeled the thing "Atlasaurus" which makes no sense given how long the necks are

Thanks for the heads up, Nima! It's really appreciated.

Somebody is a little shy to admit they are a big fan of your work, Vladimir.

Haha, it seems so. Though lately, I find myself incapable of deciding whether it is good to have this kind of fans or not. Not that I don't appreciate people appreciating my art, but that some people don't know how to treat the work of others in regards of crediting and copyrights is driving me crazy.

In this case, maybe it is a matter of 'inspired of' drawing and not so much of derivative or rip-off drawing, but who knows. It is pretty obvious there are some similarities, but at least the posture of the sauropod in the center is different enough. I can't say much for the sauropods in the background, because I myself was inspired from your skeletals and drawings to draw mine in front view.

Someone knows next to nothing about sauropods, huh? Which is shame, because Atlasaurus is such a distinctive sauropod, that I have hard to imagining how someone who supposedly draws dinosaurs can't get their facts right.

But why rhamphorhynchoids in the maastrichthian times?

Because it was mistake. I didn't look for further information on Puertasaurus besides the reference images, and just assumed it's from the Late Jurassic. Later I found it's actually from the late Cretaceous but it was too late to change the pterosaurs.

Very beautiful painting. I can see the yellow color scheme is really catching on!

Puertasaurus is rapidly becoming my favorite dinosaur, in fact I did a pretty detailed drawing of it last year, been a bit too busy to post it on DA but will do soon. This guy is easily the biggest titanosaur found so far.

I like the poses and how you restored the head and neck especially, along with minimal armor, it's the perfect look for a basal giant titanosaur. Though to be honest I restored this animal a good bit wider than you did (the recovered dorsal of Puertasaurus is just under 2m wide, and most of the width is due to huge zygapophyses that must have supported a truly colossal tank-like rib cage!)

Thank you very much!

I've seen your drawing and it's beautiful. Actually that's what inspired me to draw this animal... besides 's skeletal of course . I'm always looking for another artist's renditions of the animal I'm going to draw even if I'm not using this pics as references. I'm sure you will agree it helps to understand better animal characteristics after seeing how the different people interpret them. So, yeah... thank you for you top notch work!

I know you made you Puertasaurus having wide rib cage but I haven't read more about the subject, so I decide to make my restoration moderately. I remember seeing comments over the net, regarding the depictions of really wide Saltasaurs, and how they are kind of wrong. Probably if I haven't read those comments then I would have followed your work.

BTW, you have to upload more of your works which I saw at artevolved. They are too good to not be in your gallery here.

I just put up my version here: [link]

Despite the difference in the rib cage sizes, I can't help but notice how our restorations look almost the same with the head, neck, and chest.

BTW, I just noticed, are those Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaurs flying in the sky? Puertasaurus lived at the end of the Late Cretaceous, I don't think there were any rhamphorhynchoids left by then... the pterodactyloids had pretty much wiped them out once the Jurassic period ended.

I'm really sorry for the late reply.

I see what you mean. They are indeed many similarities between both works and I'm really sorry for that. I didn't realize it while drawing this piece. I haven't used your work as reference as I already said but I indeed got some inspiration from it. Since I don't want to make you feel offended I could put a link to your work as reference. I have no problem with this. Once again I don't want to look like I'm ripping off your work.

As for the ramphorhynchusoids I can't say much more beside that I'm total idiot. My mind is making jokes with me from time to time, especially with all these geology courses in the university. I read the basic info for Puertasaurus before start drawing it but later completely forgot about it. I just needed some pterosaurs there and drew the first one that came to my mind. Yeah, it's really big mistake but it's to late to be changed.

Naah, don't beat yourself up over it. The pterosaur issue is pretty common, since we're all traditionally used to thinking that the biggest sauropods were in the Jurassic (when there were still a lot of Rhamphorhynchoids flying around), so I admit it's tempting to show them flying over the new record-breaking cretaceous sauropods too, even though it's wrong.

I honestly have no clue what sort of pterosaurs actually DID fly in the skies in the time of Puertasaurus. I guess only Azdarchids were left by that point, as it was in the Maastrichtian.

Thanx for the link though! I really appreciate it, BTW you're an excellent artist and I know you're not ripping me off But you're right, it's nice to get some recognition lol. We're both practically the only artists so far that have even come close to doing justice to this amazing creature.

Such big animals don't need to run from anything after they reach certain age. Here, they are just moving in herd.
