Description
We all have watched "Jurassic Park" atleast one time in our lives. I'm sure most of us would never forget the velociraptors, those terrible killing machines. The problem is that 15 years later these "movie monsters" look totaly wrong. And there is no other option. After all they were based on the believes which we left in the past. That's why I decided to take the original JP Velociraptor design and make to look more like the real animal. I hope it looks good.Related content

That wasn't the case at all; He knew like many in the scientific community at the time that birds were descendants of dinosaurs. It was this knowledge that made him decide to use reptilian a/o frog DNA when creating the dinosaurs instead of bird DNA because he feared the possible bird like appearance the dinosaurs might take on would go against how the public expected dinosaurs to look, and that was a big 'no-can-do' for Hammond, who wanted to show visitors the dinosaurs that they all expected. Also to note, in the novel Wu even says that he could have also bred the dinosaurs to appear sluggish and upright like older depictions that were still common during the time Jurassic Park was being constructed. I don't get why T-PEKC would put that in there.

I know you're going for the movie model, but not only were velociraptors feathered, they were also only the size of turkeys. Deinonychus was closer to the movie size but admittedly it doesn't have as cool of a name.

depends on the climate.
There would have been quite afew velociraptor species in reality. So if you take a conservative approach, you'd get some "bald ones".

Actually no, feathers are efficient insulators, which means the can also help cool the animal down, not just heat it; its a common mistake to think that feathers cause only an animal to overheat.
Look, for example, at modern ratites. They are covered in a thick coat of feathers that could perhaps oveheat them, but yet they don't. Thanks to the structure of the feathers themselves and to the fact birds have a complex air sac system, they can control their body temperature way more efficiently than us and tthus they don't have ay reason to loose their valuable feathers.
The modern cassowary, for example, has the same body mass as a peccary, and yet while the mammal has a very short fur coat the bird is covered by long feathers

You're right. The tail should be longer but I had not enough space on the paper, so I left it shorter. Anyway, this couldn't be excuse.
The movie raptors are really bigger than the real ones. That's because back then they thought that Deinonychus and Velociraptor are the same. The truth is that the JP raptors are actually based on Deinonychus. This is the reason for their big size.

It's a bit hard to me to explain but I'll try. In the late 80s, when Cricthon wrote his novel, some scientists thought that Deinonychus is actually Velociraptor. Crichton used that idea when he created the image of his dinosaurs. Later Spielberg re-used it in his movie. That's the reason to have in the movie giant Velocirators, who don't look like their real counterparts. These creatures are based on old information. That's why most of the JP fans call the JP raptors Velociraptor antirrhopus. They are actually Deinonychuses. I hope that explain the things.

Cool partner. In the book, they said that they used lizard, bird, and frog DNA to fill in the gaps of the dino DNA. So, it meght be from lizard DNA about the lack of feathers. You can look at my "Isla Sorna Ecosystem" to have JP excitement.

Just wonderig on your ecosystem of sorna stuff (great stuff it is, as is all your writing) you didnt bring Dilophosaurus to Sorna. Is it because they arent in the lost world?

Yeah, it's mostly because of that. But I also would think is that after they found out that they are venomous and shoot their venom, they stop cloning them for safety.
