Description
It has been several years since I made the last reference for him, and now it's old and ugly and didn't fit my usual format. The bio is like 95% the same, but the art really needed an update. I didn't delete the old one, just removed it from my featured.

Region: The Sambia (Semba) region of what was Baltic Prussia. Not to be confused with Gilbert, he was there when the Teutonic Order came and assimilated themselves, converting the still-pagan area to Christianity. Although much of the Prussian land has now gone to Poland, he still remains in what is modern-day Kaliningrad Oblast.
Name: Originally Dirsus, but his name was changed to Diederich once the area was Germanicized.
Birthday: 7 April
Height: ~5’8/9 (174 cm)
History in a nutshell: On the shore of the Baltic Sea just north of Poland and west of Lithuania, were the Prussian people. They spoke a Baltic language, related to Lithuanian as opposed to German, and they shared a similar pagan religion to the other Baltic nations. As the Teutonic Order spread east in the Middle Ages during the Crusades, they came in and assimilated themselves with the Baltic Prussians. Eventually, a Prussian State was formed, German being the major language, although Old Prussian survived until the 17th or 18th century. After the Second World War and Prussia’s dissolution, much of the area went to Poland, and the rest became what is now known as Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave. Russian now replaces all Prussian and German names. (Cities, street names, rivers, ect.)
There has recently (or somewhat recently) been an Old Prussian revival, and the Prussian language is in the process of reconstruction.
A little explanation: This is based on the possibility of him even still existing, perhaps more tied to the land itself rather than who owns it, especially the city of Kaliningrad. So, until WWII, Prussia (Gilbert) would've been his boss (like America is to his states), until that role switched to Russia. He is, however, terrified of the idea of disappearing.
Languages: Prussian, German, English, Russian, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian
He's only good at Prussian, German, and Lithuanian. His English and Russian are technically fluent, but not spoken very well. His Polish and Latvian skills leave much to be desired. A tiny bit of Swedish (due to viking contact in the area, mainly trade) but not enough to say he actually knows it. For living so long, he's not very good at languages.
Appearance: Cornflower blue eyes and wavy hair a dark strawberry blond. When he was younger, it used to be long, past his shoulders, but after the Order came along, he started keeping it shorter. Now he’s a bit more relaxed about it, letting it grow a little more, though not nearly as long as it used to be. In the rain, it tends to curl a bit more. His face is a bit on the rounder side, and easily becomes a little red. He spends a lot of time outside, especially in the summer, so his skin is just slightly tan from being in the sun during the season. He also has freckles across his nose and on his shoulders. He’s of medium stature and has an athletic build. He likes going barefoot a lot, and his feet are very calloused, and so are his hands to a lesser degree. Has a habit of biting his nails, so they’re always short. He also has had both his ears pierced on and off.
Scars: He has a large scar on his left hip, a result of the Battle of Grunwald.
Basic Personality: He tends to mostly keep to himself, confined to his borders. Once talking to him though, his personality is very loud and outgoing. If asked, he's more than happy to tell people about the cities he loves, that he's seen grow and fall and grow again. However, he can get a bit aggressive about his opinions. He's generally cheerful though, or at least acts like it. A lot of the time, it's pretty genuine, but he's almost always in denial about when he's upset. It's pretty obvious too, as he tries overcompensating by making more jokes. He really likes children, and loves spending time playing games with them and volunteering at day cares and things like that. He's very outdoorsy and likes going camping a lot. He could be considered pretty environmentalist, staying pretty green. He has a large garden at home, a good portion of it edibles. He also rarely drives, but when he does, he has a hybrid car. Diederich is also quite the morning person. He would be fine sleeping in sometimes if he wanted to, but he has a tendency of going to bed kind of early. He doesn't mind though, seeing as he enjoys the sunrise very much. One problem he has is letting go of grudges. He could be upset about something for ages, but gets over it after it's either been resolved, or he just gets too tired of being upset. And he really tries to suppress it, but he feels anxious often, even if he seems to be bursting with confidence, perhaps excessively so. When he cares enough, he is an extremely loving person, but he hasn't had too much luck with that.

After so long, I've never decided on a last name. Perhaps he's fated to be surname-less like Ludwig.
