Sure, the empty couch represents her lack of desire to reconnect herself. Think of it as counseling or a therapists couch. Hope that explains it.

For me it's not so much the disconnection, but the fact, that she places her head, where her heart is supposed to be.
Seems like she's trying to feel with her head (like many people do), which - as we know - doesn't work. At least it creates a cold world, keeping everything in perspective.
