The Basic Service Shotgun Model 480 is a UFS military variant of the H&C CSA 480 combat shotgun. It feeds from detachable magazines chambered in 18.5mm Dynamo, a modular rimless (technically belted) shotgun shell. Thanks to its auto-regulating gas-operated action it can reliably chamber lower pressure rounds.
It was adopted by the Union of Free Systems as a standard military shotgun alongside the BSS 405 with most end users given the choice which model to issue. While shotguns are no frontline combat weapons they still fulfill a multitude of functions as a special issue weapon system for various military law enforcement and security tasks.
The BSS 480 is manufactured by H&C's Union-based subsidiary, Harrison & Carlisle - UFS - Firearms Manufacturing and Trading Company.
