The M5 Confined Space Sniper Pistol is highly specialized variant of the M5 service pistol designed as a special purpose sniping weapon for situations when a sniper is needed in a position were even a compact long arm would be too unwieldy to use. It is mainly used by UFS Navy close protection details and various hostage rescue teams, especially those who are expected to operate on board of space ships.
The M5 CSSP features various improvements over a standard M5 BSP including an accurized match grade barrel and improved aftermarket trigger and is almost always equipped with some kind of smart-linked optic to allow the user to more effectively shoot from various unconventional positions. In addition to that it features various little improvements that would go on to be implemented into the M4 Mk.2 and M5 ESP series.
The gun is still chambered in the standard 8.5x38mm polymer cased telescoped cartridge. The cartridge can carry significant amounts of payload and is fast enough to allow kinetic armor-piercing rounds to defeat light military body armor.
The M5 series features the rather unique COF push-button slide lock/release introduced with the M4 pistols.
Because of the 8.5x38mm CT cartridge the grip is quite large for a combat pistol making it potentially uncomfortable to shoot for people with smaller hands, especially considering the power of the cartridge.
