Excerpt from Underground Arms Research Group entry C3-19672:
While craft produced firearms made by more or less competent individuals or groups were always a concern for many, the advent of early 3D printing technologies and their modern equivalents have made the illicit and/or undocumented production of large numbers of high quality firearms an undeniable reality that even the most extreme attempts to control access to technology and information just cannot change ... you just can't stop the signal.
These weapons vary greatly in appearance, features and quality, ranging from from barely functional cobbled together junk to professionally made.

The Raymund M420 originated on the independent mining colony on planetoid RM7-5B2 "Raymund-7" during the early stages of the Great Miners' Revolts and is heavily based on the Harrison & Carlisle 420-series submachine guns and carbines that were one of the few weapons smuggled in significant numbers to the colony before and during the conflict. While submachine guns as a mainline military weapon have fallen out of favor long before humanity started to colonize space, it remains a perfectly practical weapon system for fighting paramilitary security forces in confined spaces.
The Raymund M420-2 is, for all intents and purposes, a simplified and less durable copy of the CAC 420. It is made mostly on industrial fabricators using few parts of factory-made firearms, mostly non- or not-strictly regulated and easily available furniture and basic control parts that can easily be substituted by craft-produced parts. It is chambered in 9mm Parabellum and uses 420-series magazines.
RM7 Arms started as the main workshop for illicit arms and ammunition manufacturing on "Raymund-7", but has since evolved into a decentralized group that promotes and distributes craft-produced weaponry and construction plans freely and is no longer strictly associated with RM7-5B2, the "Free Miner's Union", or the various now independent mining colonies on the edges of colonized space.
