The SSA 470 is a modernized SSA 370 semi-automatic shotgun. It feeds from an internal tube magazine chambered in 18.5mm Dynamo, a modular rimless (technically belted) shotgun shell. Thanks to its auto-regulating gas-operated action it can reliably chamber lower pressure rounds.

The SSA 470 is one of the first successful weapon chambered in 18.5mmm Dynamo, one of many modern rimless shotgun shells that became common after humanity finally left Earth and there wasn't much of a reason to hold on to the old rimmed ammunition anymore. The ammunition is highly modular in nature and optimized for usage in detachable box magazine fed shotguns.

The main market for these weapons are frontiersmen and people who live on the fringes of human space where shotguns are often an amazingly valuable tool and modern shells like 18.5mm Dynamo are commonly far more widespread than the old 12 Gauge. For these people quick reloads are not really all that important, while raw stopping power, flexibility and ease of carry are and there is no shortage of adventurers who argue that while that fancy box magazine is great for a firefight with bandits it just has this nastly habit of snagging on clothing, equipment and all that foilage just when you least expect it.
