Description Just Mufasa hanging out with his little brother Tak- Aska- Scar don't they look so happy? )

I always imagined Mufasa was a bit older then Scar, Sarabi too. If they were people, he'd approximately be... fifteen years older then Scar? Maybe? And Sarabi would be maybe at least two years younger then Mufasa maybe (Mufasa ooold). I might make something one day dictating the age "group" everyone is in one day.

I am willing to give the Live Action Lion King prequel/sequel a chance, and take some inspiration from it, but this is the only headcanon I have that I will really dig my heels on. I've thought that Mufasa and Scar were from separate litters for a looong time (at the earliest maybe... 2013??). Mufasa just looks so much older then Scar and this is due to some promotional error for TLK 2: Simba's Pride. The error in which, I believe Scar and Simba were referred to as brothers somehow (which made my make a fun little totally not canon AU where in Scar WAS a son of Mufasa born out of wedlock, and Mufasa and whoever gal he got with gave Scar up to his parents to raise, while fun and interesting, honestly not one I'm going to stick with)

My version of Mufasa, especially the younger version of him, suffers from Parentification. What is Parentification? It is "the process of role reversal whereby a child is obliged to act as parent to their own parent or sibling." In my earlier version this became easier due to Ororo/Uru and Ahadi outright neglecting Scar, possibly due to some emotional drama bs I had back then. I clung to this for years, though it became more of a emotional trauma as I tried to develop the story (basically, Ororo/Uru swapped Scar for his younger sister, and led everyone to believe she was the second born, and so he was sent off. Everyone found out, and things were corrected, but it was kind of clear that everyone was very much attached to his sister, and not him. Thus Ororo/Uru outright avoided him, and Ahadi was... distant, he took care of Scar, but he wasn't really there with him. Thus Mufasa stepped in to try and take care of his brother, try to be there emotionally for him and his parents. Oof a lot more then I thought it was going to be).

But as I get older, I kind of became disenchanted with the idea kind of. Scar... really is just some spoiled kid in the movie, and the idea of him being neglected while a part of me wants to cling to, cause that's what I thought for years, doesn't feel as right as it once used to. Mufasa however, I haven't really changed my opinion on much, he still feels like a parent, especially the opening. It doesn't... most of it doesn't give me sibling vibes, well not normal sibling vibes. More of a tired as hell parent with a bratty man-child. Though they still refer to one another and think of themselves as brothers.

But if I do retcon Scar being neglected, then I'd probably retcon Zira's relatively happy childhood (I don't believe it was entirely happy, but it wasn't awful). Aaand if I go this route, I may retcon their sister, as before she was an explanation as to why he was neglected, and why he wasn't close to the Pride. Or she can become a cousin to them. I don't know gotta think of what to do with her, since I am pretty attached to her, even if I haven't shown her off that much.

So in basis

Route One
- Mufasa is a victim of Parentification, and Scar a victim of Neglect
- They have a younger sister, she was swapped with Scar when they were cubs. Scar was betrothed off, and she was to become the Lion Guard.
- She would be the Golden Child of at least Uru/Ororo. Truth comes out, and everything is corrected
- Mufasa and Sarabi have a falling out, because she kind of revealed it (from Uru/Ororo and then she let it slip to one lioness, and it spiraled).
- Uru/Ororo and Ahadi become distant with both cubs; Uru/Ororo outright cruel to Mufasa for not fighting hard enough to keep his sister, and avoids Scar at all times. Ahadi is emotionally distant to both of them, Mufasa kind of resents him for sending his sister away, and he really doesn't know how to connect with Scar, so he's more of a... pride mate then anything else to Scar.
- Mufasa primarily raises Scar, and considers not having any kids, due to the fact he's practically raising his brother and fear he'll end up like his parents. He tries to his best, and promises Scar the throne after him.
- Things change, Scar becomes more and more of an ass, and Mufasa and Sarabi reconnect (she brought along her little sisters who are around Scar aged). They do end up falling for one another all over again, and eventually have Simba, thus putting him before Scar in the succession to the throne. Sending Scar into having a tantrum.

Route Two
- Mufasa is still a victim of Parentification, but Scar is the Golden Child.
- Mufasa was the first born, but at the time Uru/Ororo and Ahadi really... didn't love each other (neither do they in the entirety of Route One). They're emotionally distant with one another, and usually unload their feelings onto Mufasa. He and the expectations of the kingdoms were the only things keeping the two together.
- He becomes a mediator between his parents, and eventually when he's a teen, they do end up falling for one another.
- They have Scar (and maybe their sister) and he is instantly the light in their lives. Mufasa is maybe a little jealous, but whatever.
- They kind of expect Mufasa to drop everything to tend to Scar a lot: give up things, take him on lessons, give him a bath, teach him stuff, punish him, relatively be the... "parent" to him. Whereas they do fun stuff with him, they're the fun parents. They won't make the same mistakes they did before )
- Mufasa kind of thinks of not taking the throne, and they support it. Scar wanted to be King anyway. This hurts Mufasa that they supported it so swiftly.
- But Mufasa can't be the Lion Guard leader either, Scar wants to lead it too.
- Similar to Route One, he considers not having kids, and they support that as well, and consider shifting the betrothal of Sarabi to Scar. Sarabi is... weirded out by it a bit, since she always viewed Scar as kind of a little brother, and plus she does really like Mufasa. This upsets Scar that she doesn't want to go through with it.
- He does promise the throne to Scar still, under the pressure of his parents and self-doubt.
- Things still change, maybe he met Rafiki and got wise words, maybe Mohatu is still alive at this point and tried to fill the void of teacher, who knows. He decides he will take the throne. His parents and little brother aren't happy.
- He keeps Scar as next in line, up until he does decide to have kids with Sarabi and they have Simba. Scar has a tantrum still.

Both Routes
- Uru/Ororo and Ahadi... aren't great parents. Even in Route Two with them spoiling Scar, they're not great parents.
- Mufasa was a fence sitter on having kids for a long time; Scar was promised the throne after him, and is a brat.
- Sarabi ends up leaving and coming back with her younger sisters.
- Mufasa suffers from Parentification no matter what.
- Mufasa is from a previous litter then Scar (No I won't ever change my mind on this > ).
- Mufasa DOES love his brother, it's just by the events of the first movie... he's just so tired... so very tired of his brother. He really tried when they were younger, but he just couldn't do it, especially in Route One where he was completely alone in trying to take care of Scar.
- Scar in a sense is jealous of Mufasa, and wants anything Mufasa has (this in a weird way continues onto Simba).

Honestly I shouldn't put too much thought into Mufasa's backstory anymore :// since we got the 2019 prequel/sequel to "look forward" to. Which makes me kind of sad, but I'll give it a chance. Since there is a chance it'll at least be unique rather then 90% of this is just from the animated movie, but revoiced and reanimated (Honestly I liked the new parts added to the film, but it wasn't enough new for me). We'll see how their youth was like, and what their parents were like (and names for godsakes, hell they might not be Uru and Ahadi, and they might give Scar another name. One that will be set in stone cause it's gonna be a cinematic movie rather then a book and words of the director/writer of TLG).

Also I weird error I found in one of the articles about the prequel, is that when referring to the Lion Guard, one of the articles claims Scar was the older brother???? "Like Mufasa, Scar's backstory is different in  A Tale of Two Brothers and The Lion Guard, as he is sometimes portrayed as the younger brother scheming for the throne or the older brother who can't handle being king." which is from screenrant, which I don't know when Scar was ever referred to as the older brother in either of those. But it's also an interesting idea to play with I guess.

If anyone would like to see my concepts of Uru/Ororo and Ahadi (I will keep the designs probably, 2019 will be photorealistic lions and you know it... Unless some merchandise uses the stylized versions, oh no), here they are sta.sh/0mromqfjqsb just be aware though, they are TRACED from two separate screenshots. I was relatively lazy and just wanted to see their colors on some cubs, and see how they fit. Traced from Simba and Kovu, I'll link the screenshots if anyone asks.

I might change the description later on, but I just splat down all my thoughts right there. If there's any other questions you can ask, and I can answer, but my brain is mush right now.

Scar and Mufasa belong to Disney
Art belongs to me.
