Its still a great piece, as far as Im concerned, but I felt that I hadta say something more after reading some of these comments.
This guy is a ninja. Simple as that. Okay, his breastplate is more like a samurai's armour, but nothing else is the same as a samurai. The type of sword is ninja-like, as samurai swords were all curved. The positioning of the sheath and the manner by which he holds the sword are both also the way a ninja would do it. Everything below the waist is designed for speed and stealth with only a light protection on the shins. He has no topknot, which means he is not a true warrior. To see a samurai without a topknot is to see a dead samurai. It would better serve a ninja's purpose not to be marked out as being a warrior.
Refering to what someone said about spikes, overly ostentatious spikes would impede movement and make climbing more difficult. I think these spikes add to the character perfectly as they appear functional. Shoulder charges, bear hugs, both are now potentially lethal, especially if poison has been coated on them.
When I first saw the thumbnail, the first thing I thought was Samanosuke. Closer inspection told me otherwise. I was pleased.

Wow, that's really good! The spikes are the armor aren't as cool as spikes usually are, but not because of the spikes themselves. I just don't see samurai armor needing too many spikes, if any at all.

I don't mean to criticise, because I could never... EVER, draw... even the blade as good as you did.
But was the sword meant to be a Katana or a Wakizashi? I only say this because Golge-i-Khan commented the "Katana" And I was wondering if it was meant to be a Katana held at an angle.
Anyway, this is definately going into my list of Favorites.

I'm not really an expert in japanese armaments. Like i mentioned in the description, it was a collaboration. The weapon, face, hair and some other things were only described to me. Plus the person whom i made it for wanted 'onimusha'(it's a game) influence in it. And the rest like armor and other details were left up to me.
Sorry if i didn't really answer your question. To be honest, i just don't know. But i do know that the sword is supposed to be held that way.

Believe me man... Nothing about what you did changes my mind about how good you are. In fact, it more surprises me now, becuase the armor looks somthing right out of feudal Japan.
And Onimusha did pop to mind when I first saw it. And on a side note, I love how the steel shin plates look so tarnished. I truly am astonished with this drawing. *Applauds*
