Description Not much to say here. Actually drew that one a couple of weeks back, but never found the energy to put it here until now.

I don't know if it's jealousy or just an opinion, either. I've got your parents... stranded in New York and actually living in a homeless shelter while trying to get things back together, I found out later that while they knew perfectly well where I was and the situation, they had gone to the Florida Keys on a private sailing trip... with other family members. But long before that, I would look at people whose parents were that involved in their lives, and I'd tease them about it like having that kind of a close-and-happy relationship was a bad thing. I actually still feel that way, when I see people who either rely on their parents or have parents who jump in to help. Not sure why.

I'm guessing it's just the way we grew up... are we jealous? Maybe. But maybe the knee-jerk reaction isn't jealousy, it's that we were raising thinking something else was normal. Like how someone from a country with a lot of water might wash their hair every day and get irritated at the way their roommate doesn't 'keep clean,' and the roommate is from a place where water is more scarce or expensive and washes their hair only once a week or so, thinking the first person is silly and wasteful. "Normal" is whatever our experiences teach us it is. I think that's where the reaction comes from, at least at first, before we think too much about why other people have it different.

oh dear, what your parents did is just awful!o__o

and I agree that a lot of it is just... being used to a certain kind of relationship with your family. But still, that doesn't mean it's okay for people to just... do such horrible things. Especially because it has an impact on you for the rest of your life (it's pretty difficult to learn to trust people when you've never really been able to trust your family...)
